Made no noise when washing, just spinning, noise became very loud, now won't spin. Thanks.

I spoke too soon. The washer is starting to make noise again. I expect the drum wheel (spider wheel) is coming loose again. Any suggestions on how I can tighten that up for good. Maybe a new lock washer or some loctite? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Every one needs to know that the expensive parts are under warranty for ten years the outer drum front and rear, the pulley, the inner drum.  GE sent me all four parts retail value 1200.00 on their web site, got them today.  Before I under take this project I am wondering if any one know if the drum seal the giant O ring ( the one between the two halves) should be replaced or can the old one be used?

Howdy!
I just finished completely disassmbling my machine for the exact same reason you mentioned. And I mean completely. Not a screw still in place. It took 4 hours.
Turns out in my case that electrolysis is the problem.
What I mean by this is that behind the inner drum is a three pronged heavy metal piece made from galvanized steel which attaches to the inner drum by 6 large screws. Coming out of the center of this is a post which comes through the plastic drum housing into the back of the machine and hooks to the assembly your belt runs on. (This wheel for the belt looks a bit like a tire wheel well but thinner.)
What the problem is for me is that the piece inside that attaches to the drum (the galvanized steel one) has completely corroded from electrolysis and broken. All three prongs have completely broken off making it impossible for the drum to turn. I am a little irritated with GE at the moment because had they used an appropriate metal, knowing it would be constantly bathed by the water from the laundry loads, I would not be in this predicament. I am a little disturbed that a 15 lb metal part has broken before the rubber belt even wore out!
I mysel am on here right now trying to find the exact name of this part and possibly a part number so I can order it and replace it. My basement is currently a compete mess from this project and I have laundry waiting to be done.
I am also looking to see if maybe this just might be a recall situation where we can get some help with getting the part due to what I feel is faulty manufacturing.
Should I come up with any of these answers I will come back on here and share them with you.
In the meantime, unless you have the appropriate tools, plenty of time and plenty of patience, I don't suggest tearing into your machine like I have. It may be worth calling a appliance repair place for you.
If you want to be certain that this is in fact the same problem with your washer, open your machine and see if you can freely move the drum around by pushing on it. If it isn't a good solid middle of the machine spin and has play in it wear you can lift the drum a bit in any direction, we have the same problem.
Just from your description, I am betting we do.
I hope this is helpful, and I'll let you know what I find out!

OK, I am back with a little bit more info.

Seems, just about every brand of front loader I have come across in my web search has this same problem. Looks like I am done with front loaders for my next purchase, which may be very soon!

Anyway, the part that broke is called the tub spin assembly and the broken parts are spider arms specifically. The part number is WH45X100006. What I am TRULY disappointed in at the moment is that while the spider arm section readily comes off the drum, you can't buy just that piece. You have to buy the entire inner drum (which is what the part number is actually for). There is absolutley nothing wrong with the drum itself and no reason I couldn't just replace the spiderarm section. I don't understand why this isn't a seperate, purchaseable part. The inner drum with spider arms already attached is almost $400.00.

I paid $600.00 for the washer 4 years ago. I can't beleive it only lasted 4 years!

Doesn't hardly seem worth the effort to continue fixing it at this cost when I could get a good top loader that won't have this issue for about the same.

In fact, that is what I intend to do.

Bob, I hope this has been helpful to you becuase at least I can feel that all the time I have spent on this was worth it if it stops you or someone else from going through what I just did!!

    Good luck!

Oh, one more thing, I had a friend of mine who is a welder look at the spider arms thinking as a last resort maybe it could be welded and fixed. . . not galvanized steel as I thought it was hiding under all that corrosion. . . it's aluminum. These appliance companies should be ashamed of themselves!! That is just ASKING for a failure.

Bermuda, that doesn't count if you are buying it through a rental company and you finished paying for it and are no longer covered by the rental warranty. The main company washes their hands of it. No pun intended.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I checked the shocks, they were ok. Looked through the front and saw the belt was hanging down in the back. Took off the back and found the belt had come off the drum wheel (that's what I call it - its behind the drum). Found that the drum wheel was loose and wobbling and thus the belt fell off. Tightened the center bolt on the drum wheel, put the belt back on and now it works fine. I guess I lucked out.

take the two screws out of the bottom panel facing the washer and with a flash light look to se if the drive motor is loose or the belt is broken also how old is your washer there are two shocks in there make sure they are not broken

The washer no longer seems to spin... during the spin portion of the cycle it lights up saying it is spinning, but you can see inside that it is not physically spinning. The clothes are left dripping wet...
