Your windows is corrupt. Your only 2 choices are to get a windows disk of the same version you have (windows 7, vista, xp) and run the recovery console and manually install this file from the disk. On windows 7, and maybe vista, you can get a "repair my computer" option. Your second option is still get a windows disk of your version and make a clean install on your hard drive. You can get a disk online, since you have a valid serial code or you could contact Acer or where you bought the laptop, and see if they can send/give you one.

Micorsoft has become very stingy and greedy....they have removed many files from from VISTA and Win7.
if u have a VISTA lite version...i am sure u wont have all the required files to run ur system....that's why it's called "LITE"
They want u to upgrade to the full version that's why they dont giveout all the drivers with the basic version....they pretend that the vendors of the hardwares are not keeping pace with the dev of MS OS...they will ask u to visit the vendor website and get the required drivers for VISTA and Win7....
that's the only option now u have...

chek ur printer driver whether it is compatible with windows vista or not go to hp website and download the proper driver update for vista.

try this >> when you turn on your pc press f8 then choose "last known good configuration"

Check to make sure you don't have "HP Director" under your start menu. The link above has the full package of windows vista drivers, which includes the scanner drivers.

You need to start windows setup straight from cd. To do so you may need to change the boot sequence from bios.You will also need a bootable windows xp cd (not the upgrade version). Setup xp as new installation. Ensure you can get all necessary drivers and software for windows xp.

Hint: Vista works fine if it has enough ram memory, and you wont lose your valid licence and all software provided with vista.

Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?
