Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 DVD Camcorder

3 Answers

Disc will not play... camcorder wants to format the disc and says it is empty.

I recorded 30 minutes of footage onto a memorex mini-dvd rw on my sony handycam dcr-dvd 108 and took the disc out to attempt to transfer the data to a computer. unfortunately, i did not finalize the disc or see an option to do so. now, when i place the disc in the camera or any computer, the disc is said to be empty and in need of formatting. looking at the bottom of the disc, i can see that data has been recorded. is there any way to save my footage?

I was at a student convention where my son performed and won many medals. I took the disk out of my camera before I formatted it, (i wanted to view a previous recording on another disk). I put the first dvd into the camera to continue recording, and I thought i did. watching it on the camera I found out it didn't record anything after I removed the disk. I can still watch what was recorded on the camera but I cannot finalize the disk so I can put it on my computer (it says this function is not currently available) If i try to continue to record it says movie recording disabled. What do I do, I better not have lost all this.

I too removed my disc before finalizing, put it back in and then it asked me to format. Not knowing that format would wipe the dic clean, I pressed ok. Is there any way to recover the footage? Please help.

I recorded my footage and then the access door tries to open on its own causing the footage to be lost due to disk not being finalized, but I too can see the footage.

There is a software program that always saves me when I get careless and fill the disk to full. It''s called CD Roller. It''s called CD Roller.

If the procedure fails, the disk may be corrupt but you might try formatting the disk on your pc.

Hope this helps. Please rate reply if it does thanks.

Sony Camcorder tells me to use Sony DVD discs. I can't find any on the internet. Sony 30 'minutes 1,4GB/GO

Of course, Sony wants you to use only Sony blank media. :-)

See:

http://www.officedepot.ca/catalog/search.do?fkey=Vs5e55Pir7fdUMwpRkEqX2z&Ntt=mini+dvd-rw

for 1.4GB "mini DVD-RW" disks made by MEMOREX.

Look at any of the "big-box" stores (BestBuy, FutureShop, Staples, OfficeDepot, WalMart, et cetera) for "mini DVD-RW" media.

Unable to read dvd-rw from sony camcorder - wants to format

I had a similar issue. I could not read the camcorder dvd drive (sony hdr ux5) from my computer. I even tried several different computers, it reads the drive but cannot recognize the format. I made sure the disk was finalized, but did not help. Then I found the this article http://forum.videohelp.com/topic351360.html which suggested I down load CDRoller which I did (14 day trial version), finally I could read the drive on the camcorder dvd drive. Hope this helps you, if you have not fixed it already.

Playing back footage on pc

mini DVs sometimes can't be access using usb interface, try to look if u have a firewire interface, be sure your laptop supports IEEE1394. power dvd is the best player for dvd files. -r means recordable, not rewritable (rw). if ur not familiar with video editing, you may not be able to burn it to disc, but you can play and watch everytime.

How can I view the footage recorded on the DVD-Camcorder?

-Press ‘Play’ on the camcorder and review the footage on the 2.5” LCD screen -Connect the DVD-Camcorder to your television using the supplied Audio/Video cables -Download the file to your PC using the supplied USB 2.0 interface cable(not available on DZMV730A) and view it using a Windows MPEG Player application that supports DVD recording format (.vro file extension). -Finalize a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc and play it directly through a home DVD player.
