Question about Biostar U8668 Motherboard

2 Answers

Ram On the U8668 MB there are two sockets for DDR modules and the spec. shows that you can have 2GBs of ram.  I got two 1GB dimms and installed them. The computer general Info shows 2GBs of ram but when I use PhotoShop or play a Game(F1C, GTR2) my graphics processing (object and texture details) are below what I had before I installed the dimms. I cam remove one dimm and everything goes back to working at full. It dosnt matter which socket I use as long as there is only one dimm installed, for only 1GB of ram. any ideas??

Yes, that was one of the first things I tryed. I got it from the Biostar site. Do you know if you can change something in the bios to fix it?

  • TomC9000 Jan 11, 2008

Yes, the dimms are the same, I got them in a two dimm package.

I tried to update the bios and kept getting that the "Bios Check Sum Fail", I dont know what that means. I'm trying to install the U8668R33.DDR or U8668R41.DDR to see if that well fix my Ram trouble.

tom19511, I have a U8668 MoBo not a U8668D. Do you know if I can use the U8668DR33.DDR update? Also when I flash the MoBo I get either "Bios Check Sum Fail" or "Bios ID not a Match"

  • TomC9000 Jan 12, 2008

Thanks tom19511 thats the one I flashed a few weeks ago. It didn't seem to do anything for my problem. I guess I have to old of a MoBo and will have to start new, even Biostar wont answer my calls for help. Thanks for Trying with your knowledge.

I've heard of this happening on several mainboards. It has to do with memory mapping. Have you tried flashing to the latest version BIOS?

I bought P3200 ddr 400 1gb memory and when i install it , it does not show up. any ideas why and if there is something i can do .

The Intel® Server Board S875WP1-E supports both ECC and Non ECC Unbuffered PC2100 (266 MHz), PC2700 (333 MHz), or PC3200 (400 MHz) compliant Double Data Rate (DDR) memory modules. Dual channel memory functionality requires two DIMM modules installed into DIMM sockets 1A & 1B, and then DIMM sockets 2A & 2B. The DIMM module size, speed and vendor must be the same.

You can install a single 128 MB memory module into DIMM socket 1A. The minimum supported memory size is 128 MB. The minimum main memory configuration is a single 128 MB memory module, and the maximum configurable memory size is 4GB. With only a single memory module installed, the system will only operate using a one memory channel.

Third party memory vendors may use the same module part number with different
DRAM vendors and die revisions. To insure proper system operation, verify that each DRAM
vendor and die revision has been separately tested and qualified. Please notify CMTL if there is a discrepancy.

    Intel D845GBV Motherboard RAM

You can use only DDR 266Mhz dimms maximum upto 2 GB. i.e. one DIMMS of 266Mhz of 2GB or two of 1GB each. For more details read bellow:

    Upgrade from 512MB to 1GB

The specs on the memory are correct, so you purchased the correct type of memory for this motherboard. If your getting no video when you power on with the 1gb stick, I would be willing to bet the 1gb stick is bad. Can you return it and try another stick?

    SAMSUNG 1GB RAM 400MHZ PC3200

    RAM has to be

    Four 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets

    Supports PC3200 (400 MHz) /PC2700 (333 MHz) / PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR DIMM type

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory module is 1 GB

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 4 GB
It has to be the same.

    • If you are replacing a memory module, put the
new memory module in the same memory slot
from which the old memory was removed.
    Or
    • If you are adding a memory module, install the
new module into the socket nearest the
    preinstalled module, and install additional
modules in the next available sockets
