SOURCE: fan runs freezer and fridge don't cool

Please check the model number again, I can't locate that number. The number should be like for example 194.258978 Look at following areas for the model number

  • Beneath Or Inside Food Compartment On Cabinet Frame
  • On Plate Lower Front Or Rear Of Cabinet
  • Beside Compressor Door On Right End
  • Near Rear Of Cabinet
  • Inside Liner At Top
  • I think your refrigerator has a defrost timer and this may be the problem, Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Refrigerator and Freezer Not Cooling nor Freezing

That leaves only one possible fault; the volatile component of your coolant/lubricant has escaped.
If the unit has been moved or cleaned carelessly, one of the coolant- bearing tubes has developed a leak. Any refrigeration tech will have a leak detector in his tool set so it shouldn't be difficult to find.
Depending on the area in which you live, expect the troubleshooting and recharging to run ~$150-$250 US.
If you reside in the US, check your local (area) Better Business Bureau for a trustworthy service company.

My kenmore fridge model 56723 is not cooling that is the fridge side. the fan is spinning very well but the compressor is very hot. funny enough the freezer appears to be cooling okay

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------

Iceream is not freezing

The temperature is not set to high cooling.First check the temperature setting. But if temperature is set right and still the ice cream is not cooling then .Problem relates to weak compressor. ------------- The problem is weak compressor. The refrigerant ( R12) in the compressor is got low.The compressor is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned that ice cream is not freezing, so that means freezer is not freezing to its required temperature.------- This indicates problem with compressor. When compressor cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Freezer not freezing but cools like the refrigerator would. Refrigerator not cooling enough. the cover in the back of the refrigerator was off. I reconnected but the freezer still won't freeze

is the freezer fan running? is there frost on the rear freezer wall if so it would be a defrost issue. if no frost on freezer rear panel it would sound like a bad compressor or sealedsystem leak.

Fridge not cooling or freezing

You can start with replacing the start capacitor and relay to see if the compressor will run again, but you have about a 50 -50 chance that the compressor has gone bad and will need to be replaced....

Top refrigerator not ccoling and bottom freezer

check the condenser temperature when the compressor is running by hand it must be warm or hot if it is not then that means no refrigerant left in the system. This can be a possible cause.

Kenmore side by side is not getting cold or freezing

If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.
First, answer these questions:
Is the refrigerator completely dead?
If so, see “It's stopped completely.”

The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:
The compressor
The Thermostat
The overload, relay, or capacitor
The defrost timer
The condenser fan motor

The freezer and the fridge are cooled by the same system, air is moved to the fridge by a fan from the freezer, either the circulation fan is defective or the fridge thermostat is defective.

Cooling and freezing problem

When the frig stops cooling properly, is it running at all? If the freezer fan is running and it is not cooling, you can rule out the thermostat and the defrost control. It would be a hard starting compressor or condenser fan. If the frig is not running, then it is likely the thermostat or your electronic defrost control. The defrost control is right behind the thermostat in the same housing. When you play with the Tstat, do it carefully as not to jar the defrost control. If the frig comes on, replace the thermostat.

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.
