Question about Canon imageCLASS MF4150 All-In-One Laser Printer
I just set up my new Canon MF4150 and I can't tell that I did anything wrong...printing on one side of the paper worked beautifully but when I tried to get it to do duplex, my paper kept jamming.
I am using Canon "Multi-Purple Paper" which says "For use with: Copiers, Fax Machines, Laser Printers, Inkjet Printers".
I have just had the same problem on one of these Canon MF4150 machines.
The manufactures warranty on our machine had expired just one week before this happened so I had to fix this myself.
The problem we had (which is very likely to be the same cause as yours) is when we removed some torn jammed paper, it had somehow pulled off a spring from inside the machine. The spring was linked to the paper jam sensor.
It does involve a LOT of work to fix it, and unless you are very 'techy' it may be quite a difficult task to do this for the 'average' person.
I had to completely disassemble the machine: Take off the front first (lift up the cover and there is 2 screws at the front and 2 clips on the bottom of the machine) Then remove the 2sides and finally the top (screws should be easy to see, to get the sides off, un-clip along the front edges and gently move them outwards and slide them backwards to release the clips on the back) being careful with the wires going to the scanner part). Then look for the fuser unit which is near the top at the back, there is a black rounded cover over the fuser. To remove the cover, look for 2 small clips one at each side and unclip the cover and gently lift upwards. Under the cover on the left side you will see a small plastic rod which goes from the left side to a small tab in the middle, if you look about half way along that rod you should see a tiny spring, make sure this is clipped on properly and that you are able to rotate the rod and it should spring back to the proper position when you let go.
Once this is done, put it all back together again and it should work fine.
I'm sure a lot of other people probably have this same problem too so I hope this helps someone.

Just fixed it - problem is the tabs on the fuser cover either let go or break off. Mine was broken off on the one side causing the fuser cover to sit up higher than it should. The result - paper gets sucked back in UNDER the fuser cover instead of OVER it - DEAD END for paper if it goes under and - JAM.
A new fuser cover is a cheap part from Canon, less than $20 and that will fix the problem I find my printer had.

Thanks mate. I just did this, and the spring was loose. I reattached it, and put it all back together. However, it didn't fix the problem. It's hard to say whether the spring may have came loose again, or whether my problem is caused by something else. What does the pin actually do? Could it be fully removed?

Here are the instructions for duplex printing.
The duplex printing function allows you to print data on both sides of a sheet of paper.
The procedure for performing duplex printing is as follows:
1. Open the printer driver setup window, and check the Duplex Printing check box on the Page Setup tab.
2. Select Normal-size Printing (or Fit-to-Page Printing, Scaled Printing or Page Layout Printing) from the Page Layout list.
3. Specify Staple Side.
The printer analyzes the Orientation and Page Layout settings, and automatically selects the best staple position. Check the Staple Side setting. If you want to change the setting, select another value from the list.
4. If necessary, click Specify Margin... and set the Margin width.
5. Click OK.
If a media type other than Photo Paper Plus Double Sided is selected for Media Type on the Main tab:
When you execute print, the document will be printed on one side of a sheet of paper. When printing is complete, reload paper according to the displayed message and then click OK. The document will be printed on the opposite side.
If Photo Paper Plus Double Sided is selected for Media Type on the Main tab:
When you execute print, the document will be printed front and back alternately for one sheet at a time. Load the paper according to the displayed messages.
Duplex Printing is unavailable when:
- A media type other than Plain Paper or Photo Paper Plus Double Sided is selected from the Media Type list.
- Poster Printing is selected from the Page Layout list.
When Booklet Printing is selected from the Page Layout list, Duplex Printing and Staple Side appear grayed out and are unavailable.
