I had the exact same problem. It's a bad capacitor on your power board. It's most likely the 1000uF 25v one towards the center of the board. I noticed it on mine because the top of the capacitor was pushed out more than usual and it has some residue, which are signs of a burnt out/bad capacitor. (WARNING: There is a risk of electric shock when opening the power supply unit. Leave the unit unplugged for at least a few hours before working on it. Proceed at own risk!) Read on for a fix:

1. In the back, remove the stand screw covers (x2) to access and remove the stand screws (x4).

2. There will be a single screw under where the stand was attached on the screen. Remove it.

The LCD/unit is sandwiched between the thin faceplate and back cover, which are held together by several clips:

3. Carefully pry and remove the faceplate with a flathead screwdriver or other flat tool.

4. There will be 2 screws holding the button circuit board in place. Remove the screws, unplug the small cable from the board, and remove the board.

5. There are a few clips towards the bottom that hold the back panel onto the LCD frame. Pick at those until you completely remove the LCD unit.

6. Remove the 4 side screws holding the LCD panel to the frame.

7. Carefully disconnect the 2 sets of wires and the single ribbon cable from the LCD panel, taking note of their direction.

8. Remove the 4 screws holding the large power control board in place, and disconnect the 2 cables connected to it (the smaller cable disconnects from the power control board, while the larger one disconnects from the other end).

9. Locate the faulty capacitor and take note of its direction/polarity (+ and -). Use a powerful soldering iron to remove it from the board. I say 'powerful' because I could not get the factory solder to melt with my Weller at full 850 degrees. If you can't get it unsoldered, you can CAREFULLY pry it off with some pliers. If the connectors remain attached on the board, pry them off as well.

10. Put in the new capacitor ($1.73 at Radio Shack), taking care not to bend or break the leads and taking note of its polarity. Trim the excess lead wire off and carefully solder into place.

To finish, follow steps in reverse 8 through 1. Plug it in and test. If all is good, it should remain on. You might hear a tiny high-pitched sound when there is no signal or screen is idle. This happens with mine, but should be no cause for concern.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi, If the light on the monitor stays blue it is not losing the signal. Most likely cause is a fault on the inverter board which will cause the screen to black out.

My monitor(HPL1950) was working good until i unplugged it to play on PS3. When i connected the monitor to my PS3 with HDMI it showed black screen. I cant figure out what is wrong with it

I assume you have never tried this option before. Based upon the manual for your device, it seems that you may have a compatibility issue. SOME models of your device had digital video input capability. But most operate on analog inputs only. Even the DVI jack (which ironically stands for Digital Visual Interface) on most older devices is an ANALOG input jack. Only when you get to DVI-D and DVI-DD does the input get totally digital. So what you are probably seeing is that the monitor see a signal on the DVI, but cannot comprehend it as it is looking for an analog video signal and is receiving a digital one. Here is a Wikipedia Link explaining the different DVI jacks, their capabilities and limitations.

Brand New. Plugged in, first of all buttons don't seem to respond to touch or anything. Issue: runs a "test" as far as i can tell (Analog, then Digital, then HDMI, then repeats again), then goes...

It is not seeing a good signal from your computer (that is what it is doing looking at analog, the digital, the hdmi) Could be a bad cable, or plugged into the wrong connector on the computer. Computer is on right?
Try turning off computer plug in monitor then turn on computer see if you get any reaction.
Another suggestion if your are using the digital cable, try the analog (or visa versa)
Let me know if that doesn't help.

After starting the computer the screen is black and only displays digital analog on screen and the blue light is flashing. It then displays a box say "check signal digital analog." please help me. Thanx.

This blue light flashing means there is power to monitor bu NO video signal. No Analog or digital Video . analog is the regular plug for PC to Monitor, the other is HDMI digital or other digital. Check signal digital/analog means again: No video signal from PC detected.

Syncmaster 2033 loses signal and blacks out but keeps power. Only way to fix is restart. Windows 7 64bit OS. NVIDIA GeForce 9600 vid card.

I had same problem. Try using another cable, VGA/Digital Video.
My problem was gone if I changed Digital Video to VGA analog.

try to set your screen resolution to maximum using Display Settings in windows. Besides, are all software drivers for this monitor loaded and properly installed? Right click My Computer=>Properties. select hardware => device manager. Make sure video icons are not marked with question marks. if they are, install monitor drivers shipped with your monitor.

No digital signal but analog works fine

Seems like this was already answered? But once you've checked against the owner's manual and ruled out the PC, I would suspect the signal / video board inside the monitor. May have gotten a surge or static, etc.
