It says backup the data and format the player

Why does your mp3 have to formate? Any error? or the internal memoy is corrupted? If it is, I am afraid that you have to fix it by formatting.And I think that you do not want to formate it because something important must be in the mp3, and you can make a backup before formatting, anyway, you can recover data from mp3 by some recovery software after formatting if you can not make a backup. This error occurs sometimes with the player. Please format your player via your computer so as to solve it.

IMPORTANT:
Formatting will erase all data on this player. Make sure you have backup all data on this player before execute the formatting.

1. Connect your player to your computer.
2. Double click My Computer at the desktop on your computer. You will find an icon for your player.
3. Right click your mouse to select Format... in the popup menu.
   • If you can not find the Format... option after you right click the icon, please double click the icon, you will find another icon named Internal Storage, right click this icon to select Format.... You may get a warning message, click the OK button to start the formatting.
4. Click the Start button. The formatting will auto start. You will get a message Format complete when the formatting is finished.
5. Transfer again your backup data as you did to the player.

To format it Connect it to the computer, go to My computer-> right click on the mp3/mp4 player after it is displayed-> select format-> Format it as FAT32 File system. Formatting the MP3/MP4 player will delete all the songs/data from the player. So, backup all data before formatting it. Hope this helps...

Umm... Vague, but I'll work with it. Connect it to a PC. under "My Computer", find your device, and right click it. You should see "Format Device", or "format".This will remove any and all media from the device, as well as clear your settings.

how do i backup the dataup when it can't be seening by the pc

If you used the eay rip software its all achived there. For a back up
You can format the palyer two ways. 1 windows will do it for you.
2 use the firmare update page from RCA http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/categories.aspx?product=317&post=4
Just pick your make and model number there.

To backup the data:
Connect the RCA Pearl to the computer
Double-click My Computer
Double-click the icon corresponding to the RCA Pearl
Double-click the Music folder
Create a temporary folder on your Windows desktop
Drag music files from the Music folder fo the Pearl to the temporary folder on your desktop

Are you sure you need to format the player?
Try updating the firmware first, especially if you have Windows Vista

Yes you can download the firmware updates.
You will lose any data on it if you check format player.
If you have that unchecked you will still have all your old songs music and video's

in your case, there might a system file on your mp3 player that was corrupted, you really have to backup your file, copy all your files from your player to the pc and format your player.

You should backup your data and format the player. Plug her in, copy your music onto your computer, then format it by right clicking the drive in My Computer, then going to Format, then clicking Start. After it's finished, copy your music back over to the player and it should be sorted.
