Iomega fat 32 formatter program does not allow me

Iomega fat 32 formatter program, downloaded from Iomega, does not allow me to format my eGo 500GB usb drive as there is no "format" command among the clickable options when the program loads.

So how do I reformat this NTFS drive to FAT 32?

If you really must have fat 32 (maybe for MAC use ?) then windows itself does not support doing a fat format on large drives.

However there is a fix Yup thats why they call it FIXYA

Here is a link to just what you need

Hope its what you need and good luck

Not recommended. NTFS is much quicker then FAT32, and some of the new machines might say that file system is not supported. Try formatting through disk management from windows

Hi, guys. Just received your Iomega eGo Helium 500 GB external hard drive and successfully backed up the HD on my MacBook Pro. My question is whether your HD can be formatted/configured so I can also...

Yes all external drives can be formatted but formatting will always wipe off everything on it. If you want to format it you can right click on it when it appears in Windows Explorer. You are usually offered the choice of file system FAT or NTFS. FAT is limited to a file size of about 4 GB, so usually choose NTFS, I am presuming you are talking Windows system. Then you would have to copy your files to it once again.

I need a manuel or tutorial for my new eGo 500GB portable Hard Drive. Where do I go to find it on line or other places? For my iMAC.

Try this: http://download.iomega.com/manuals/prthd/portable-hd-en.zip
If you find that this manual is for a slightly different version, then go here: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14432#egoprt and choose the correct version.

I downloaded the fat32 formater from the iomega website but it doesnt work. I use windows 7 home premium. It finds the drive but when I press format ,windows hangs and just says program not responding

Try to use the built in Windows formatter for this application. Right click the drive in explorer, and select "format..." It should be self explanatory for this.

How do I reformat my Iomega eGo hard drive so that it is compatible with my Mac? OSX 10.6.6 The current IOmega format is FAT

First of all, connect the Iomega to you mac, make sure it powers up and is detected by the Mac. Now follow these steps: ( It's important to note the Drive before you begin this task so that you may not make any mistakes.)
  • Open the system drive, usually titled "Macintosh HD." Open Applications, then Utilities and double click the "Disk Utility" program to open it. A window will open giving a list of all the drives currently mounted on the computer.
  • Select the disk that needs to be formatted on the left.
  • Click on the "Erase" tab to the right of the list of drives. The window will now display the options for erasing the hard drive and formatting it to work on the Macintosh computer.
  • Select the Volume Format from the pop-up list. In most cases it's best to leave it at "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as this is the default. This setting is the best option for running Mac OS X. If there are other requirements for the disk, then select the format that best suits your needs. If you have questions about the formats, refer to your Apple user's manual.
  • Name the hard drive. Type a name for the disk in the field where it asks for the name. This name will always appear when the disk is mounted on a Macintosh computer.
  • Click the erase button. A window will open asking to verify the erase procedure. Click the erase button in this window to start the process of erasing the disk. Once the process is complete, the drive will appear with the name it was given on the left side of the window with the list of drives and on the desktop of the Macintosh computer.
Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

1. The TV and drive may not be compatible with each other. 2. The formatting of the drive could be the problem. The USB memory stick would be formatted as FAT32, but the Iomega drive would have been formatted as NTFS. Maybe the TV can only read drives formatted as FAT32 and not NTFS.
