This compaq mobo has 4 more pins on the power supply connector than a regular ATX. What do I need to connect to those extra 4?

I did some research and the powersupply for that machine is a standard ATX powersupply, so yes just about any off the shelf power supply will fit and work. They may be overkill but that's fine.

HP sells the proper power supply for your machine for $98US as part number 176764-001 . There parts store is at

Compaq system board 686,0MB (320756) board manual

That's an old mainboard (Motherboard), used in a Compaq Presario 5716 desktop computer. (And perhaps a few other Compaq Presario's)

1) Uses a Slot 1 (Intel) processor slot.

2) Maximum Intel Slot 1 processor that can be used, is an Intel Pentium III, with a 100MegaHertz Front Side Bus. (100MHz FSB)
Maximum frequency rate for the processor is 700MHz.

(Scroll the page down)

3) Ram memory is SDR Sdram at 100MHz. Or also known as PC-100. (168 pin. 82 on each side. Two Locating Notches on bottom. Commonly just known as Sdram, but that is a misnomer)

Maximum TOTAL Amount of ram memory is 384MegaByte.
Maximum Amount for each ram memory slot is 128MB.
There are 3 ram memory slots.

4) Do not know what the jumper settings on the motherboard are.

5) Do not know what the Front Panel header pinout is.

6) Can run Windows XP Home Edition, but do not expect a world of performance.

I would like to know my motherboards name, model, and are there any upgradeable processors for it? Type is a Compaq 5008US

It's Intel® Desktop Board CA810E and the only processors to which you could upgrade to are second generation Pentium III Coppermine, up to 1.2GHz, that you will find only at auction sites - out of production since 2001. Practically it's an antiquity, not worth upgrading.

No power to my compaq presario

If the power adapter is working fine and tried in another laptop, then the most likely cause is the connector in the laptop is damaged or come loose on the motherboard and will need soldering to secure the connections.

If the power supply is faulty it could be the output power lead is broken inside the cable usually near to the round plug at the end of the wire so would need replacing, but beware some power supplies are made not to come apart, and be careful. You might just as well buy a new power supply if you don't know what your doing.

If the power supply is fine and the laptop shows some sign of life then the most likely causes are the cpu is blown, or the mothebard has blown, you could try taking out the cdrom and floppy drives because if one of them is faulty it could prevent powe rup.

Regards Wayne.
