Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
As per Sony,
Trying to Update the Firmware, copying to a file and installing from a USB drive failed.
As of now, they are yet to release the patch for this Version. You need to wait for few more days before they would release a patch for it.
The only Option you are left with :-
1. Format and check , if that could fix the issue.
2. Back-up the files on your HDD that you want and th format Utility in System Settings. Then try updating.
Unless, Call or Email Sony, so that they must be aware of the same and they would send you a Patch, even though it is not officially announced, if it's Possible.
Let me know, if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The fault is not on your end. There are many people complaining that this update is failing to load. The reason for this appears to be that Sony have rolled out version 3.10 within the last few days (November 19 to be precise) and there are more PS3s than their download servers can support.
Therefore the servers are currently overloaded with people trying to update all at once. It is likely that this will self correct and speed up as more people complete the update.
Firmware updates are particularly susceptible to damaged data. If you now have the update on USB - I would suggest that you will first need to format your original PS3 before it will accept the new update. This is due to the possibility that the original failed update has already stored corrupted data. This will prevent the USB update from loading.
Finally to decide whether you really need or want this update in the first place take a look at this and do remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Download from this link below and then put it on a flash drive, memory card, or external hdd. Plug it into the your PS3 and then go to network update then chose the "update via storage media" option. That should work since you are having problems downloading right from your PS3 and should even fix your problems with the new updates.

Hello, and welcome to Fixya!
Thank you for asking your question here.
That error means, that your ps3 is having difficulties downloading the update.
The way around this issue , is to go to this link.
Download the update yourself to a computer, then save the update file to a flash drive, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”. < that is where the update file will go..
From the XMB menu, select Settings , then System Update, and then press the X button.
Select [Update via Storage Media], and then press the X button.
Make sure not to turn the power off during the update process, as this could damage the firmware and cause the machine to need to be replaced.
If you have any questions or difficulties please feel free to reply!

that happens when an update file is corrupted, or if it cannot be downloaded completely.
If the PS is starting, to complete the update you can try
If the PS is not starting try a reset. You will need to disconnect PS power cord, then to plug it back in, while holding power button down at the same time.
You will hear the console beeping twice, and then the PS will restart and hopefully complete the download.
If that does not work, contact Sony at the number listed on the owners manual.
