Without details of your OS and computer set up I can only give a working example for a typical set up

Laptop with mic x Webcam with mic x Vista OS x Yahoo Messenger

If you have an earlier OS, you may have to access your hardware from the Control Panel.

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays
Restart computer
CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

Click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Calling and Audio
Set mic and speakers to show Default equipment
Run call up assistant to test audio equipment > Apply > OK

On skype i can see the other person but they cannot see me, on test image is ok ?.

If the Logitech works then the fault is with the Skype configuration. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the Logitech QuickCam
Also check the Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

I couldn't get my cam to work!

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger.
COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER
Use Internet Explorer to visit this page to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/webcam/mstacamtest.html

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your selections ( who you will allow to view you) > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
Messenger 10:- > Actions > More Actions > invite to view my webcam. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( +1 minute) before they see you, so don't be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above (Ignoring webcam connected) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Sometimes you may have to broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. This happens when one of you is down on resources -its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down
you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through

Use the 'Always on top' option from the 'webcam' menu - or your image will disappear when you type a message

Can't see me during night time even there's is light

Several factors determine onscreen size of a video image produced by a Webcam. The actual Webcam hardware may be limited to a maximum resolution. The percentage of your screen filled by a Webcam image will be a factor based on your desktop resolution and the maximum resolution of the Webcam image. A third factor impacting image size is available bandwidth Webcam software may also play a role in determining image size, but in most cases the software is only limited by the Webcam output. There are several ways to optimize your results to make sure you send a Webcam image viewable at the highest resolution acceptable to relatives on the other end, while also optimizing your system to maximize available screen real estate with inbound images from relatives.
Webcam hardware is often a big limiting factor in determining maximum image size. Most Webcams on the market today output a maximum 640x480 image, which easily fills a television screen. Any of the Webcams currently available from Logitech, Creative, Apple, D-Link or the numerous niche companies marketing Webcams will support 640x480, although some produce better results than others. If you have a Digital Video camera capable of doubling as a Webcam, you may get a 720x480 maximum image size. Apple's iSight camera and some of the higher end Logitech cameras using CCD instead of CMOS image sensors produce excellent images at 640x480 in well-lit rooms.
Knowing 640x480 is the maximum image size, don't expect incoming video to fill your screen if you have your resolution at 1024x768. The graphic below is shows the relative portion of a 1024x768 screen filled by a 640x480 image at 50% of actual size. If you want the incoming video to fill your screen, reset the resolution of your monitor to 640x480 to properly accommodate the incoming video feed. This assumes your relatives are capable of sending 640x480 video from their end. If their sending limitation is 320x240, the best you can hope for is a video filling 50% of your 640x480 screen.

I receive sound and vision perfectly - the other side doesn't - any help ?

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud
