There is an inherent problem with Vista and certain DVD players. Your DVD player had the drivers knocked out by VISTA. I know one brand of dvd player, panasonic, has this problem I corrected this once for my friend. You don't want to hear this, you will have to call Tech support and tell them about it. They will direct to do the following: 1) You have to go into "regedit' and delete an entry in your computer's registry ( be very careful when working in the computer's registry, there is NOT a "oops" key. Once you delete something is gone for ever. Best to just rename the registry entry by putting an underscore in front of the first character on the line IE. if this is the registry entry insert under score here _heu786lokheihgtkll). 2) Download the drivers again and install a patch. After the entry is made and the driver downloaded, restart your machine and your off and running.

Machine will not recognise a new disc when trying to copy a recording

Did the previous machine show EXACTLY the same problem, or did that machine have another issue?

Regarding this one, does the DVD drive respond well to playback discs, such as commercial release DVDs, or DVDs recorded on other machines? Does it play back CDs OK? If it passes these tests, move on to-

I suggest trying to record on different discs - such as a DVD-RAM, or on a different brand of DVD-R, or DVD-Rs from a different batch to your current ones.

If the machine succeeds here, all good and well, if it fails at this point, it seems the machine is faulty and should be returned.

Try different blank media i.e. brand and most importantly what the Drive likes and or dislikes, yep not all are compatible with one another, eg CD-R or CD+R same with DVDs

Trying to record to disc from VHS After recirding 8 copies, it now reads "Unknown disc, Please check disc" This is a Go-Video VR3845 Unit.

Hello,

I answered this question previously and the solution remains the same;

how long have you been using the player and has it ever accept blank DVD-R discs in the past.

The problem might be as a result of weak laser (lens) or the blank discs inserted might not be compatible with player.

When the laser(lens) of a player becomes weak, it will not be able to read blank discs. It only takes a very strong laser to read/accept blank discs. If it happens that the laser (lens) is the cause of the problem, then it means you will need to replace the laser (lens) to a brand new one to be able to read blank disc. Though the player might be playing DVD and CD, note that blank disc is stronger when it comes to reading from the laser (lens), it requires sharper laser. I hope you understand this.

So, insert a CD into the player and observe if it will play.If it plays, then its obvious that your laser is very weak.

Concerning the incompatibility issue, I hope you are aware that there are various kinds of empty DVD discs such as DVD +, DVD -, DVD RW. Try any of this empty DVD discs as one of them as to be compatible with this DVD recorder.

Amongst the two topics discussed above, one has to be the cause of the problem. So its up to you to figure out which is the cause of the problem.

I hope you understand the above....

I wish you good luck.

Try switching it over to DVD . Because you may still have it on HDD when you put the disc in it may be that the unit is still thinking you are on HDD and don't recognise it as a disc just the hard drive

Did the sales guy use the same DVD-RW that you did? Maybe the brand you are using is not of good quality and can not be recognized by the recorder. If he did not use the same disc did you notice if he used DVD-RW or DVD+RW? Some DVD-Recorders only recognize one or the other but this is kind of rare these days. I recommend verbatim brand discs. They should be available for sale at any shop. If you want the ultimate in quality DVDs then go with Taiyo Yuden. This Japanese brand invented recordable media and in addition to that they are obsessed with quality. www.supermediastore.com is always where I get my discs.

Thanks for reading!
Hope this was helpful

you might have bought a blank dvd that is not compatible with your dvdrw.

try to clean your dvdrw first and then try to insert that blank dvd again.

You can try other brands of audio cdr but it sounds like your laser is on it's way out. Some find cdrw's still work after cdr's have stopped being recognised.
