    Hi

It sounds like the contents of the drive are corrupt, all the steps and solutions to solve this issue are somewhat advanced, and you might have trouble in following with them, I would recommend that you take the machine to a friend who knows how to fix the issue or to a local pc repairer.

or if you wish to attempt to fix this yourself and you feel confident that you can do it then I can advice you further.

Do you have another computer that you can use?

Well if you have a windows installation cd, then you could follow these steps to perform a repair installation of windows, note - if you have a recovery cd, it most likely will delete your files. So only do this with a windows disc.

    to perform a repair installation

this is for xp, but its similar on 2000 and on vista.

insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter boot menu, it will very likely be button F12 or similar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesn't, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd.

here's some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change...

Repeat step 1 when you have changed the boot order.

    2. Now you should have a blue screen with text - Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup. Do not start from the cd again, when the computer restarts let it start on its own, don't start the cd when asked.

7.Ones windows is working you will need the drivers for your computer, they are at the makers website, for hp and compaq. www.hp.com for acerhttp://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/dow... for all other brands go to google and write Brand drivers. Should get you to the right place. Dell is most likely www.dell.com and so on.

Hi.

The first thing to do is always unplugging computer power cord for ten minutes. This will reset the computer and can fix minor problems on any of the circumstances listed. If the computer is a laptop, also remove battery while power is not connected, so to drain power completely.

I am listing below all possibilities, followed by brief description of fix needed.

If the computer is completely off, and no light or sound is coming from the computer when you try turning it on, then you may have a blown power supply unit.
- Have PSU tested and replaced.

If when you push start button, the computer turns on, you hear the fans coming and see lights, but there is no display at all, then you may have a problem with an hardware component, commonly motherboard or video adapter.
- Start main board with minimal set of devices. Have hardware tested and repaired.

If you can see the initial boot up display, and then you get Operative System not found or No Hard Drive, then either the disk is damaged, or Windows installation is corrupted.
- Install hard disk on different computer or enclosure to recover files. Try reinstalling Windows. Replace hard drive.

If Windows start but then freezes , then windows files needed for startup had been damaged (eg. Startup.ini).
- Start in safe mode by pressing F8 on startup, if the PC is starting, then do a system restore to a date when computer was starting.
Attempt system recovery using windows install disk.
Reinstall Windows.

If you want more detail on any of the operations listed above, just let me know.

Do not forget to leave feedback.

Regards.

    Hi.

Before removing the hard disk try reinstalling Windows or recovering the system.

To do this you will need a Windows setup disk.

Before reinstalling Windows try also starting the computer in safe mode.
The computer is started in safe mode by pressing f8 on startup.
If computer is starting in safe mode, do a system restore to a date before having the problem.

If computer does not even start, try doing a new Windows installation.

To install Windows you will have to start the computer with a bootable Windows CD inside.

When asked choose Boot from CD and follow instructions.

You will need to enter a valid windows license number when required.

When you get asked to choose the kind of installation, try first selecting Upgrade Setup. This will preserve most settings and all your data.

If the Upgrade setup option is not given, then choose to install the system into a different folder. In this way the data from previous account won't be deleted.

If the installation is prompting you that there is no disk inside the computer, then the disk may be faulty and all data lost.

If you want to recover data you may try buying an hard disk enclosure, like this ones :
Shopping results for hard drive enclosure.

Hard drive enclosures can be PATA or SATA. Ensure you buy the right one, PATA is the big 40 pins IDE connector, SATA is the new small serial hard drive connector.

I have an HP1110n....It acts like it is booting up, but I only see my screen background pic. No icons show up. The disk spins and is doing something, but it won't display ANY icons ! Help !

This happens when Explorer (the file manager - the program that makes all the files visible on the screen) doesn't starts at boot. Press Alt + Ctrl + Del to open Task Manager. Click File, click Run and type explorer. Click OK and the icons and the taskbar will appear. If it doesn't start or it's faulty in any way you will have to reinstall Windows.

When i putu the power cable on, the led light blink once and goes off. the screen is black. no fan is moving or any sound.

You should try to start your computer without the battery installed. If that doesn't work, you should try another power supply. If that doesn't either do the trick, it could be the motherboard causing the trouble.
