I now use a verizon mifi card for my internet connection and after I put the computer on standby and wake it back up, I can not receive calls on Google talk. It still rings but the the Google voice call...

i believe its the standby causing the issue
try to change over to using hibernate instead which also saves more power

how to setup hibernate
  1. Go to Start->Control Panel->Power Options. Click on the Hibernate tab
  2. Click on the box that says "Enable hibernation" to check it.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab and change the Power buttons options if you want to hibernate by pressing the sleep button or the power button. Otherwise, holding the Shift key while in the Turn Off Computer menu will give you the option to hibernate.
  4. Restart your computer every week or so to clean your computer.

Problem with hibernating mode

the hibernate mode is cancelled due to some motion in computer aplication for example: when you press any button in key board than the sestem restart or else if the mouse is touched than the system comes out of hibernate mode. Your cause woud be of due to of mouse movement. so if you want to avoid it than you just need to cover the touch pad with a piece of cloth

How to turn on toshiba satellite M300 laptop from hibernating mode

hi shirleygty, is that automatic hibernation (the computer hibernates by itself) or manual hibernation (by pressing the hibernate button)? If either applies to your case you might need to update the BIOS information for your computer to fix the power management issues on it. You can get it here. Just run the file, click install & choose Install From Windows. Make sure you don't have any BIOS password or any external devices connected to the computer. When the update completed successfully, your computer will automatically restart, then try hibernating this time (manual or automatic). I do recommend setting the hibernation to 1min. at the control panel > power options > change when to turn off the display. When it hibernates, pressing any keys or the power button should wake up the computer.

Hope this helps.
