Question about Computers & Internet

Hello I have another Toshiba Satellite L25 S1217 Issue, this time it seems to be more serious. recently it started showing what appeared to be all the signs of a dying backlight. The function keys didn't work, so I never could change the brightness. I came across a Good Display and inverter from another L25 that I was planning on parting out. to my shock, that display was dim as well, and testing the other display on the parts unit, it was dim at first but brightened to normal levels in 2 min. that laptop also had a functioning FN key. even updating the bios didn't restore functionality. and another strange thing, The UUID string reads 2020202020202020202020. I'm at a loss here, is this fixable? or did the board go bad?

Sounds like you have a bad backlight fuse on the MOBO. It can be fixed but you will have to figure out which fuse it is. It should be somewhere near the video connector, but it could also be a transistor. You would need proper testing equipment and schematics to locate your problem child if that is the case.

Try to shutdown, remove battery, remove AC plug, Press and Hold Power button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC adapter and test.
do you hear windows booting ( the startup sound) after a few minutes, if so there may be a monitor hardware problem

For some models, however -- including those listed above -- booting from the Recovery disc requires pressing the F12 key, rather than the 'C' key. The instructions below are correct for these models.
CAUTION: The Recovery process reformats the computer's hard disk drive, which completely erases its contents -- including all applications, all documents, and all other data stored on the drive. Be sure to back up your documents and other data before following the instructions below.
Follow these steps to erase the current contents of the hard disk drive and to re-install all of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured:
1. With the computer on, insert the first Recovery disc into the optical drive.
2. Shut down the computer (click the Start button, click Shut Down, select Shut Down, click OK).
3. Press the computer's power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press and hold the F12 key. Release the F12 key when the menu of boot options appears.
4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the CD/DVD option. Press the Enter key to select it.
The computer will restart, and will boot from the Recovery disc.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to start the Recovery process.
CAUTION: Once the Recovery process has begun, do not interrupt it.

The computer's hard drive will be formatted, erasing its contents. All of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured will then be re-installed.
6. Once the Recovery process is complete, remove the Recovery disc, and press any key to restart the computer.

When pc comes on it says it is missing windows

Try pressing F8 repeatedly at boot up and choose 'Last known good configuration'. If it doesnt work, sorry but you need to reinstall windows. Look for your windows cd and call toshiba for a walkthrough in windows reinstallation. This means though that all your files will be erased and the computer will be reprogrammed.
