Re: washing machine

I'll start with the least expensive problems and work my way up to be somewhat encouraging!

* If the machine fills with water AND it doesn't spin OR pump the water out [and you cannot hear the motor running] the lid switch that triggers the machine may be defective or broken. For safety, washing machines are made so that they cannot spin with the lid open. The lid switch "tells" the washer that the lid is closed, so if it breaks, the washing machine may be able (in some models) to fill but not spin -- in some models, it may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. Not sure if this is "kosher"or not, but I have checked this myself without taking anything apart by carefully inserting the tip of my finger into the small hole where the lid closes. When I did push the little pad just beneath the surface of the hole, my machine started working. . . when I moved my finger, it quit, so I knew it was the lid trigger switch that I needed to replace.

* If your machine fills up but won't spin and won't pump water out [but you hear the motor running] it could be the pump pulley that has become "frozen" or stuck. To check this, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley by hand. If it won't turn fairly freely -- it it's really stiff or won't move at all, or, if the pump belt is broken -- replace it. Many machines have two belts -- if either is broken, it could result in a problem like the one you've mentioned.

* If the washer pumps water out but won't spin, the motor coupler may be broken. Many machines are made by Whirlpool [Kenmore, Roper, etc. are all made by Whirlpool]. These washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. These can wear out with time, and this may be a problem if your machine is an older unit.

* If the washer pumps water out but will not spin or agitate (or, if the water will pump out but the machine will either spin OR agitate but not both), the drive motor may be defective, either totally burned out or only burned out one one of the two sides/directions [the spin/drain is one direction of the reversing motor, the agitation is the opposite direction]. If one of these cycles works and the other doesn't, possibly the drive motor has burned out in one direction only. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

* If you hear a really loud noise when the machine should be spinning, it could be that the spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components let the inner tub spin freely inside the outer tub. This would be a repair for a qualified technician.

My machine 4E doesn't want wash and doesn't fill water

The water pressure level switch is a pressure activated switch that is used to determine the correct water level in the tub. This part is normally located behind the control panel and will have a hose or air dome tube that connects it to the tub. On washers that use an electronic control, this switch may be located at the sump area below the tub. As the water fills in the tub it will compress the air in the tube and push against a diaphragm inside the switch. The switch will control the water inlet valve and turn the valve off at the correct water level. If the tube has a leak, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill. To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level switch may be defective.

You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube.
If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good
The other item to check would be your water inlet valve. Check it for continuity with a multi meter it should show Ohms or a closed circuit. To test it when water is overflowing unplug the unit and see if it still overflows or continues to fill. If it stops when unplugged. Then it is not a water inlet problem but an electrical signal problem going to ur water inlet valve. Possibly from the panel or board.

Why is my machine starting filling up a little then stopping for good

Most of these washing units have a weight distribution sensor. If it senses an unbalanced load it will stop. It is also possible that the bearings that support the drum are damaged and the sensor is preventing the washer from continuing normally. You could also be experiencing a faulty main control board, or a host of other sensor issues.

Why doesn't my whirlpool thin twin fill up with enough water to was a large load?

No cannot over ride set at large doe the machine fill to a certain level then stop if so operating correctly if it never stops filling with water then there is a leak in the fill system either a hole in pressure switch hose it popped off tub or water leaking out thru drain system pump or siphoning thru hose again if unit starts to agitate there is enough water in unit per design

Stackable washer dryer

there's a water pressure switch that when the water fills the pressure switch gets satisfied and then stops the water and then sends power to the timer or board depending on what machine you have,if the switch doesn't close the washer will just keep filling.the switch could be bad or also there's a clear plastic hose that goes from the switch to the side of the tub, sometimes detergent or or junk that can form in the hose can cause this,i use a plastic tie or a paper clip ,pull off the hose where it connects to the tub and clean it out with the paper clip,if you have an older machine you can blow gently into the hose and you'll hear like a click sound from the switch,if the hose is clear most likely it will be a bad pressure time send the brand name and model number so whoever is helping you can look up your machine.all washers are not the same

Fh showing on my kenmore washer

First try turning off the machine for 30 minutes. Then check your inlet valve. Shut off valve, switch off machine & see if the water comes full flow. Check the filters on the machine inlet entry, they could be blocked, clean out.

The FH indicates a fill failure and this is usually caused by a bad water valve, flow meter or pressure switch.

One key to determining the cause of the FH error is how fast the error comes up in a cycle. If the error appears within 1 or 2 minutes then the most likely cause will be the water valve or flow meter.

If the error doesn't appear for several minutes then the pressure switch can be the source of the problem.

Both water valves must be turned on and working. Even if a cold wash is selected at some point during the fill the hot water valve will be energized and if there is no water then the FH error will show up. Sometimes a consumer will turn the hot water valve off to save energy but you can't turn one valve off on this washer.

Inlet valves can be purchased thru the net and fitted by you easily.

My GE washing machine keeps over filling, flooding the room if we don't stop it. Where is the mechanism that measures and turns of water?

If the machine starts to agitate and the water does not shut off replace the water inlet valve. Now if the machine fills and does not agitate, then clean the pressure sensor tubing and the line coming off the tub. Hope this helps Tim
