In those 2 sec can you see windows or boot screens?
if you put bright light at an angle close to lcd can you see a windows shadow
then .... (from a.n. other)

after two weeks searching I finally find doctor living stone

more fun with paulbtorrent

the takening the case bit off is like open your wallet a second time
after buying a new LCD, but you must! smallest two screw driver's flat headed, practice using two pennies stuck together()with your fingers after, one little () move and inch and {} again, with the case , it does not break, just need to lever open
[once open you realize they somehow put that old briefcase clip inside!]

also note the bright light test to do first to see if can see a windows screen , and that capacitors are one for a number of things that a make a inverter work! there a transistors as well, given that however, to replace all the capacitors on my inverter, was 11 capacitors, cost me $11 (uk ebay) and already had the iron and solder. So only cost me me $11 to try and see but no luck , still fun and I still can see the screen for 2 sec' at a time plus I have a spare set of caps now in the event that the new one do go burst! you have to laugh really, what next , a new on/off button ! come back all is not well mmmMMMMmmmMMMMmmmMMMMTim Berners-leeMMMMMmmmmMMMMMmmmm

Sir,
You are suggested to check the power cable of you monitor it might that any unusual setress on the cable have got lose inside the monitor. Sir this was the first problem another could be that you screen have got lose solidation on chip which mainly cause this problem. You screen can be repaired and it is cheaper to get so.

SOURCE: Dell monitor shows blank screen, green power light stays on

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should workfine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one thesame way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

SOURCE: Dell E173FP 17 monitor went dark and not working. ...

Hi!

There are three possible cause why your monitor went black and start working..

1. If your monitor is dead set.. no reaction or lights turn on after power on.. then it needs to check if there is blown capacitor in its power supply section..

2. The high voltage ballast transformer of the backlight inverter is burned - it needs to be replaced so that it will not have a direct effect on the power supply section of the monitor.

3. The backlight inverters are all busted - the backlight was located at the upper and lower back edge of the monitor.. If these lights are busted then all that will be seen in your monitor is black screen.. It will need to be replaced so that image display will come out from your screen..

These 3 reason and its solutions can only be done by yourself if you have the knowledge, proper skills and the right tools to open the back cover of the monitor and replace the problem parts....

Otherwise, bring your monitor to a credible technician and if there is warranty,, avail of this...

Hope that answer your question..

Much appreciated if you rate this help..thanks..

I am trying to connect a second monitor a dell E173FP to my computer. I run Windows 7. My computer is not detecting the second monitor.

If you have a dual-head video card, you will need to go into display properties where you should see 2 monitors. One will be grayed out. You need to right-click on that one and tell the computer that it's connected. Then you can set it up.

Monitor is in asleep mode comes on 3 seconds goes off how do i get it 2 stay on

Does the monitor do this with other machines? If no or unsure, do the following and see if the problem persists
1. click Start 2. Click Control Panel
3. In Classic View, find the Power Options Icon and Double Click. In Category View, click the Performance And Maintenance and then click on Power Options.
4. Under the Power Schemes Tab, click the drop down box next to "Turn off monitor" and change the time.
5. Click Apply/Ok

The monitor only stays on for three seconds

I will assume that you already try this mnoitor with other PC and still get the same result, same with new VGA cable.
Then you will have to do some component level trouble shooting, common failure in these Dell monitors (made by BENQ) are due to poor solder joints and shorted out transistors (c5707/5706) in the inverter circuits. See pictures of failed Dell monitors for guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see, otherwise you can get the replacement board from http://lcdrepair.us/powersupply.html

Describe your Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor Problem The monitor seems to be turning itself repeatedly on and off. No picture is ever seen, the screen stays black with a slight flicker.

Sounds like the monitor is cycling power.
Try plugging the monitor into a different power socket. Try not to use the same power bar as your computer

Please list the model number of your monitor.
Also is the power light flashing? What color(s)?

Unfortunately the symptoms you are describing tell me the inverter/power board inside your monitor needs to be replaced.
