    Hi,

Have a 57" Toshiba Rear Projection that is a bout 5 years old. Almost appears to have a 3-D effect. Blurry and unaligned appearence. Tried the auto focus feature and it show a error. Appears to be the red color that is misaligned. Any ideas and is it worth fixing?

can only watch channels that are hi definition with no problem. All regular channels are jittery and distored. Is it expensive fix?

My toshiba is starting to get blurry at times but then will right itself. Seems to be very intermitant. Not sure what to do or how to fix.

I have the same problem even after replacing both STK392-180's. The image is extremely distorted when first turned on, but after a warm up of apx. 20 min. the picture attempts to clear up but still has a jittery (if this is a word) image and displays a flashing double image? I did not see any areas on the board that appeared to be hot when the STK's were replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where can I find the convergence IC's. I have a Toshiba 57H81. What board and what location are the convergence IC's. What do they look like?

    Thanks very much.

  • maloneyp Feb 13, 2009

What is the best way to get to the convergence IC's the Toshiba 57H81 has a big board in front of the chips and the heat sink looks like it's soldered into the main board. Thanks

Go to an unused inut...bring up the menu.....if its clear, its the hyper board........if it blurry......its a convergence problem.

It is a convergence problem: look at my posts on similar convegence problems where 2 integrated circuit ic's (big and black fastened to large heat sink) need to be replaced as well as any resistors that have gotten very hot or have burned open.

spelling is wrong it's an unused INPUT ....BUT THAT IS NOT necessary ...this is a convergence problem guaranteed....and it should be worth fixing IF, that is IF you know what your are doing!!!!....again see my posts on similar convergence problems with big screen (crt projection type) televisions.

Once the repair is finished...run autofocus and all should be well...if not, then full adjustment of convergence using crosshairs and the remote control will be necessary. You must read details on how to do this part replacement especially cleaning away old heat sink compound and applying new heatsink compound as well as other details. Some tv's can be upgraded to the stk392-180 ic's which i highly recommend....others cannot...at least identify and post here the number you see on the ic's spoken of above.

SOURCE: Toshiba 57H81 Image Problems

This is a common fail for a Toshiba 57H81 the cause most likley is caused by the Hyper board, there are several capacitors that have weakened and need to be replaced, these are surface mounted and have VERY Fragile contact points, if your soldering skills are week you might want to take this somwhere to have it fixed

The fluid that is used to cool the face of the 3 tubes has become clouded and discolored. This fluid is serviceable. I wouldn't try it myself if you've never done it before. A TV shop can do the job.

The convergence ICs and the six 1.8 ohm 1watt resistors need to be replaced. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com which has the Two Convergence ICs and the six resistors plus the CD with instructions on how to do the repair.

Toshiba 57H81 picture bounces. Can't tell if horiz. or vertical.

Unstable picture, wavy, jittery, and loss of sync are a symptom of bad capacitors in the hyper module. The problem is worse when the set is cold, but when warm the sympton gets less or goes away. In the latter stages the problem never gets better even after the set has been on for hours. There are about 6 surface mounted caps (10mf/16) inside the shielded Hyper module. The module is vertically mounted behind the jack panel and can be unplugged from its socket after unsoldering the 4 anchor tabs on the bottom side of the PCB. This type of repair should be made by a qualified technician do to the complexity of chassis removal and expert soldering skills.
