Re: model numbers

Any cd/dvd drive with a standard IDE (not SATA) connector will work fine.

I have e machines EL1300G-02W desktop pc has dvd rom can i add a cdrom drive?

Your DVD-ROM drive will also play CD's. You can also easily remove it and replace it with a CD-ROM drive if you like. Simply open the case, unscrew the DVD-ROM, remove the power and data cables from the back and pull it out through the front of the case. Installing the CD-ROM just involves doing this in the reverse order. Make sure your computer is off and unplugged during this process.

My emachine does not load any dvd rom disc's it will read a cd rom disc but will not recognize the dvd's.model # w3107 2006 year

more then likely the DVD laser part of the drive has burned out, i have nearly the same model and had to replace mine a couple years ago!! This is a classic situation, the CDROM laser is still functional, but DVD is inop!!! New DVD-RW Drives about $20 on and even cheaper on for a decent DVD-ROM model!!! Easy fix too, just make sure you get the IDE style, or make even faster with SATA, if you have a SATA available on your system!!

I have an W3107 E Machine that has a bad motherboard...I understand that is is no longer available...what type of MB Can I replace the bad MB with?

It may not be available from emachines. However, it may be available elsewhere. The part number for your motherboard is D33007 K8MC51G. If you want a different board, you can replace it with any microATX form factor. But you may then need to buy different memory, processor, hard drive, cd-rom drive, and/or power supply. By the time you get done buying new components you can possibly spend as much as you would for a new computer. So, my advise is to look for an exact match of your current motherboard. If you can't find one, replace your pc.

p.s. I searched your part number and found one here:

I need to replace the dvd/rw in my GT5026E but cant find the original. What will replace it

Any 5 1/4 DVD / CD drive will work. You may have to order drive rails depending on the setup of Gateways tower. You should have 2 - 5.25" Drive Bays available. The original model number and name for the DVD drive is 5648 DVD Burner Combo Drive .

The tower does have internal SATA so you can replace it with any internal SATA DVD rom you like, it doesnt have to be Gateway, and it can even be blu-ray.

Hope this helps

I have an e-machines with a dvd/cd-rom in one that will not work.

i understand that your pc has a single dvd-drive that has the problem that it dos read dvds but not cds...
please give model because this is a rare error.
to check it, get the following disks and the freeware program 'burnatonce' (it is a burning software that accesses the drives on a lower than windows basis )
to check from the hardware side what the problem is:

install burnatonce
run it
open tools/device info
and check if the following disc are really recognized or not

a standard music cd(audio cd)
a computer cd(original ! windows install cd or other install cd)
a self burnt cd containing mp3's (CD-R type, 700MB or800MB)
any other computer cd for pc

an original film dvd
a selfburnt film dvd (DVD-R)
an original computer-data dvd (any PC-Game will do)

if only dvd's work, strange!

get a new drive then.

CD ROM/Burner for the EVO D500, is it standard or special order?

A standard combo drive or a DVD burner will be a great replacement for your machine. Make sure it is the same type of drive that your system uses (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA).

Dell Dimension 2350 DVD/CD Rom Drivers

According to the info in your post, here a firmware update for you drive from Dells site. This assumes that you have xp as listed on dells site.

If you do not have xp, you can look at the service tag on the side of your machine (it should be 7 digits). After you have that you can enter it here

After you get that info you should have a screen that list the different components of your system. You will want to click the + beside CD/DVD. Then you will want to look for your model number that you listed above and dowload wants available for it.

It usually automatially installs and corrects the issue but if not you may want to open the device manager by clicking Start > Run and typing devmgmt.msc. This willl take you to the Device Manager. Open the DVD/CD section and right click the drive listed above and choose Remove or Uninstall. After it disappears, restart the machine and install the firmware update that was downloaded earlier.
