Question about Handmark Software MobileLists (950142) for PC, Mac
My teenage daughter is having conversations on line with people I don't aprove because of their past. I beleive she is engaging in illicit activities because of the people she hangs out with. Every time I come in her room she shuts down her computer or closes her email or closes her chats. She is very good in computers, so my question is: How can I record evey key stroke she makes in that computer without her knowing that it is being recorded. I am very worried about her safety and her future.
I think that talking to her will help much better than trying to spy on her. There are many books out there that help parents with troublesome teenagers.
Ask God for wisdom, courage, and humility, sit down with your teenager and have a serious conversation with her... as a friend that wants the best for his friend. Don't accuse her of doing wrong but advise her on what could happen if she keeps doing what she is doing. Show some respect and trust on her. Be gentle, and think before saying anything to her. Don't let your emotions take control. Listen to what she has to say. Ask her to forgive you because of all the times that you have disrespected her and not trusted her. Tell her that you love her, and earn her trust back. You want your daughter to trust you, to see a friend in Dad as well as an authority figure, but first a friend and a guide.
Then it will be good if you can develop a relationship and learn some about God, not religion, God. What his promises are and how much he loves us. So that way you can introduce the love of God and Jesus to your daughter. And believe me, God makes miracles happen every day and He can touch your daughters heart and change it tremendously.
I will pray to God for you and your teenager;
God, in the name of Jesus. Father I ask you to give this man the wisdom, the smarts, the courage and the knowledge to talk to his daughter about the problems that they are having. Lord God I ask you for a miracle... touch this young girl's heart and draw it closer to you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
God Bless You Brother.

Your concern is totally valid. Young girls are very impressionable and adolescent years are crucial for developing a self-identity. Surveillance cannot stop her from chatting she will just chat elsewhere and even worse she will work even harder to keep secrets from you. Spend time with your daughter. Even if she's not receptive. She needs to know you're important to her. Encourage her to develop her hobbies and skills. A well-rounded kid with healthy self-esteem will not seek destructive relationships.

If you Google Computer Monitoring Software you will get many ideas about available software that can be installed.
You can also consider these "helps":
1) Open the Browser that is most (or always) used and select (for Internet Explorer) View>Explorer Bar>History. This will give a list of every site visited within certain time periods. Of course if she is "too smart" she may delete the History when she is done. There is a small "x" on the top right corner to close the History window when you are done.
2) If you are familiar with using Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) you can look in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Cookies and then Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files to get an idea of what sites are being visited. (You can access Windows Explorer by going to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer.)
3) If she uses an Instant Messenger, like AIM there are log files you can search for. Click on Start>Search and enter log. Usually you can double-click the results that are shown because they are usually text files.
Good luck....from a father of 3 girls.
Thanks for using Fixya.
