Things work till they don't / so look for a drain pump failure or something in drain line ( very common ) if you have just replaced the disposal you need to remove the plug for the dish inlet .. it's a knock out .. mm

What is the float switch

I have no real experience with float switches on dishwashers, but have with some in humidifiers. It's a piece of styrofoam on a narrow metal stick that lifts when the appliance fills with water & lowers when the water empties. If this gets stuck on something, like a dishwasher rack, the unit won't fill or empty the water & the cycles won't work properly. Take a look & see if there is such a thing hung up somewhere in the dishwasher. If you can loosen it, your dishwasher should work again.

My dishwasher is empty and last used, successfully, 2 days ago. The motor has suddenly started running as if to empty. the only way to stop it is to switch off the electric supply

Hello,
This sounds like the anti-flood device is activated which would suggest a leak,if the tray underneath has water in it then a float switch would activate and the dishwasher would constantly drain out.You will have to remove the dishwasher and remove side panels and determine where it is leaking. If you tilt the dishwasher backwards to drain out the water then mop up the water then restart the dishwasher you may see with a torch where the leak is coming from.

Hope this helps.

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

Water to dishwasher not hot enough

The 737 model could run on even lower temperature (80F). Given time, the unit will heat up the water. the trick is to give it time.

That model is made for commercial use, not really for residential. It will not fully drain every cycles. The important thing to keep in mind is to empty the dishwasher (turn it off, pull the stand-pipe out, and drain) every night and left empty. When you want to use the unit, put the plug back in and turn it on, wait 20 to 30 minutes and it should be ready.
