My transcend v30 2gb pen drive is not detected. The light glows on the drive but doesnt show under disk management. tried under win xp and win 7, no go.

Sometimes flash media is not recognized or fails to be recognized by the system. There isn't really much you can do besides buying a new unit.

Format Problem

Usa a program like Acronis Disk Director. Install it, run it, find your flash drive, delete all partitions on it, create a new partition and format it.

Removing write protection of USB pen drive

if u format ur pen drive. then use this step
Check out the registry under:

1)click on start button
2)clik on run dialog box
3)type regedit
4) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.
The value 'WriteProtect' should be absent or set to '0' and when you try to format it you have to format it as FAT16

Good Luck!!

Remove Write Protection

Remove Jet Flash Write Protection Insert the mini CD that came with the USB Flash disk. Start JF Utility.exe in the JF Utility directory. If it complains that the disk is write protected, choose "Continue" Choose "Partition" Answer "Yes" to losing all your data (Since this becomes a problem usually after formating the disk in WinXP or Win9x, you will most probably not have any data on there in any case) Choose "Public Area Only (Single Partition)", Then "OK", Then "OK" again. Unplug the device, reinsert device, and voila!- no more dark secret areas or write protection on your disk!
