Question about Televison & Video
Phillips/Magnavox 52'' Rear projection tv-Mod#9P5544c102. No Audio or Video but power light on. Ordered kit (tvkits.com), replaced the old opto chip with ic socket and then the new chip. TV worked fine for 9 months...then tv suddenly cut off while watching. Power light comes on but no pic or sound-just like before. Ordered several of the same opto chips from ebay but didn't fix it this time. Is there another common problem besides the opto chip that causes this similar problem?
John, my thoughts is something in the main power supply. I don't know what an opto chip is but I've heard of Optocupler IC's.
May be a good idea to give a call to some local TV Repair Shops especially ones that work on Philip's and see if you can speak with a tech to see what their thoughts are on what the problem is and what a repair cost may be.
The issue is one of hauling it to the TV shop or having them come out to you.

Testimonial: "thanks...the chip is an opto coupler that apparently is a high failure part & replacing it usually fixes the problem. I must have another pwr sup prob"
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
