Question about Sharp Aquos LC-32GD4U 32 in. LCD HDTV
Picture goes black with no warning (audio still OK), must turn off TV for 5-10 min. Problem has been recurrent and it is getting worse. It looks that when you turn on the ceiling fan, it helps a little bit, but still no guarantee. It happens watching movies, or cable, or playing videogames. HELP!
San_chanoc, Yes, and it will get worse, and eventually not work at all because you don't know how to fix a possible "COLD SOLDER JOINT" on a printed circuit board. The unit's "switch-mode-power-supply", that supplys most of the unit's DC voltages could have developed a THERMAL INTERMITTANT solder joint that will only need to be reworked to restore reliability to the unit once more. The problem will be in finding it!!! You may need a large magnifying glass or industrial 10x-20x inspection microscope to find the ONE and only ONE faulty Frosty looking thermally FRACTURED solder joint. Check out youtube!!! It's all there for you to view. But don't fix the problem if you find it. Get a 3meg pixal or better digital camera that can do close-ups (1-2 inches) to document the EVENT and send it to Sharp and ask them to PAY you for the repair. Yes, it will get worse due in part to the GASES in the AIR we breath will continue to cause more OXIDATION of the hairline fractured joint. Well, good luck on your quest. I hope that this has given some insight into your problem. Let us KNOW what you find out!!! lmistyrel@ aim.com or 12fixlouie on fixya Bye for now.

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.
Please post back what you find.
