Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a network set up in my house using a wireless router (D-Link DIR-655 A4). Our main computer is a XP pc in our rec room. My wife and I access the web from other parts of our house through the D-Link router, and up until recently, were able to also use a Canon printer which was connected via usb to the XP pc. Unfortunately, the Canon printer died, and so we recently connected a Brother mfc-7220 to the XP instead. While we can print using the Brother with all three machines (for the laptops using the shared printer privileges), doing so makes our ms office programs crash. Any thoughts on how to fix the problem? FYI...we use Network Magic to help manage the show.

IF ms office program crash then you need ms office disk for repair or reinstall it.
You can also repair it from start menu->control panel0->add remove programs.
Select ms office and click on repair.
Also turn of printer sharing then again share.
You can use share printer with the ip of computer with which it connected.
For that go to start ->run type in run "\\"
there is is ip of computer check youre computer ip which has printer connected.
Then you can connect printer again from there.

I have a DIR-655, can't log on with my Itouch, also can't remember password and have not been able to reset

There is a reset button on the back of your router, hold this down for 30 seconds with a pen. You will need to go through the whole setup process after this.

Just bought a D-Link wireless router (DIR-655). I have a static IP, so config using static IP info. Wireless works and 1 desktop works. However, main desktop can't get internet. I can ping router and...

I have the same D-Link Wireless Router and I can't say that I have run into this before.
Mine seemed to work from day one without any problems. I also purchased the D-Link adapter cards for a laptop and for my desktop that are located in other rooms.

Maybe, try a different version of IE to get it to access. I don't use Firefox, that much, so I didn't notice that firefox worked better or worse on my WiFi network.

Maybe try to shut off the broadband modem and the wifi router and the computer and then reboot all three to make sure that that's not the problem.

Also try to reset the router.

Good luck on figuring this one out.

I have a DIR 655 D Link router and I can't save changes.

Lots of possibilities, especially if the wireless device and your PC are older - the DIR 655 doesn't support wireless protocols 802.11 a and b, for example, only the newer g and n.
Start with getting the router software up to date (see )
using an Ethernet link to a PC, and then debug the wireless access. The DNS message could be caused by the Windows wireless adapter config having a manual IP address vs the router being set for DHCP (dynamic) or vice versa.

Dir-655 works with XP and Mac which can connect

Go to and login. Then go for the 'Setup' tab on the top and look for the 'Wireless Settings' tab on the right.
You can now automaticly setup your WLAN connection and afterwards you can go to the 'Manual Wireless Network Setup'. Over there you can change the 802.11 mode.
  • 802.11b only
  • 802.11g only
  • 802.11n only
  • Mixed 802.11g and 802.11b
  • Mixed 802.11ng and 802.11g
  • Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b

Go for the last one that uses n,g and b and you will be sure your computer can connect :)
Good luck!

My DIR-655 won't work!

It would be helpful if you could be a bit more specific regarding the way you hooked up the dir 655 to your network and your specifc DSL modem. If the modem you are using is the Actiontec M1000 DSL modem you will not be able to obtain internet access because the DIR 655 is trying to route an already routed IP, the M1000 has a built in router / DHCP that by default is enabled. You can use option 1, access the configuration settings of your M1000 and change the WAN configuration to act as a transparent bridge. After doing so and rebooting the modem you will have to enter your DSL login information like a PPPoE username and password for example into your DIR 655 network settings. With this configuration the modem simply acts as a bridge to relay data directly to the DIR 655 and the 655 itself provides login credentials to obtain internet from your DSL provider as well as hand out IP addresses to the local network. Option 2 is to continue to use the M1000 as a router by default and disable DHCP on your DIR 655 so that it essentially acts as nothing more than a switch or wireless access point while the M1000 hands out local IP addresses. I personally would recommend using the DIR 655 to route IP's as it's got far more configuration utilities than the M1000 does as a router, and really what's the point of getting the 655 if you're only going to use it as a switch or access point when there are other simpler and cheaper devices that could do that for you.
