Question about Olympus Camedia C-740 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera
Hello i have recently purchased a olympus c-740 camera and the flash pops open but will not turn on... the camera's shell kinda moves back a little and opens at the top(next to the flash) when you pop it open. anyone have any idea what could be wrong here? and/or how i can go about fixing this?
Hey, thanks for the help but i did fix it myself... i bought the camera as a display model from a local store and the flash door has a little piece of plastic that comes off the side toward the middle(the little plastic piece that hits the switch). Well i opened the camera and found the piece of plastic(it was broken) so i glued it back together and BINGO i got a flash. Thanks for the help.

If you bought this camera "used" as I suspect possibly you might have (possibly on Ebay?) - seeings if it were damaged brand new right out of the box that you would have just taken it back to the store for a replacement - it looks like you never checked that part out before buying it 2nd hand, or damaged in this case.
If you bought it on Ebay (brand NIB or otherwise) then it's doubly just as bad, as you may have no recourse at all to return it if the selling party lied about it's working 100%. Many a seller there fudges on stuff sold there, and if the ad stated "AS IS" then you have no recourse at all going back to the seller. Never buy anything online that states "AS IS" - Golden Rule #1.
The other scenario here might be you damaged the flash door yourself catching it on something and springing the pop-up mechanism - as people sometimes never want to fully state how something gets broken, but it happens to the best of us from time to time. Such is life...
That flash pop-up mechanism also has a micro-switch lever that disconnects it from the Flash Tube CHARGE circuit when it's closed. That too could have been damaged.
This is not something that you will be able to fix yourself, as it appears the HV wires coming from the Power Supply Flash control PCB (Printed Circuit Board) possibly are damaged as well. Either yanked out at the PCB or else broken at the HV (High Voltage) discharge tube itself. If it's the latter then the Flash Tube is HISTORY - as in NO MORE FLASH function period.
The only way to get a true evaluation on the C-740 damage (if you are now indeed stuck with this broken camera) is to take it in to a AUTHORIZED Olympus Repair facility and have the factory trained techs there give you a proper repair cost. Other then that you may be out even more money taking it anywhere else.
How much did you buy it for if you don't mind me asking?
Where are you located state wise or which Coast ae you closest to?
Let me know?
