Change set up on DVD from PAL to AUTO if my TV set has no PAL

How to change set up of DVD player from PAL to AUTO if my TV set (KDL-46XBR9) has no PAL compatibility?

My DVD is CyberHome CH DVD 300. Because the DVD has been set to PAL and my Sony TV is NTSC, I am unable to display the DVD set up menu on my TV and change the DVD setting to AUTO or NTSC. So this question is how to do it?

  • dstramski Nov 23, 2009

    Your solution does not work.

After pressing MENU with remote, the symbol "NO" does NOT appear.

After pressing 1, and then 9, the symbol "NO" does NOT appear and the menu does NOT appear.

My TV set constantly displays "No signal....".
I know that the cables are correctly connected between DVD and TV, and that I look at the correct INPUT on TV. This is because I used before this DVD player with this TV set and it worked. I simply changed the DVD setting to PAL by mistake and now I am unable to reset it back to AUTO or NTSC. \

Please provide a solution that will work.

Again my DVD is CyberHome CG DVD 300 and my TV is LCD Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR9.

There is a reset to auto function for this dvd player's video mode setting. Turn the player off, then turn the player on, open the disc tray, and then press and hold the STOP button for at least 5 seconds to reset the video mode to auto.

I hope that helps.

Hi,

if your DVD media is PAL system encoded and not /nor have NTSC

then no need to change the settings of your DVD player, however

if the media can both play on PAL and NTSC then you need to provide

us the make and model of your DVD player.

In the case of having the DVD player and the DVD media ( disk)

both in PAL system . it would need an additional converter to

convert PAL system to NTSC. Although some VHS player/recorder

have built in converter from PAL system to NTSC , you can use

it, just in case you have one available, and PAL is not an option

on your Sony KDL 46XBR9.

your Sony KDL 46XBR9 have NTSC , an American TV standard

here is a link to a manual , just in case you need one,

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KDL40XBR9.pdf

it is stated on page 46 of the manual.

hope this helps, thanks for using Fixya!

    you can try these:

You will need the remote control.

    1. First make sure there is no disc in the player, and there is no
obstruction in front of tray. (Glass door, etc...) Close the tray.

    2. Press MENU on the remote (Ignore the 'NO' symbol that appears)

    3. With the remote, press 1, then press 9 (Ignore the 'NO' symbol that appears)

    4. A menu should appear.

    5. REGION CODE should already be highlighted. If you want to change
this, press ENTER on the remote. Then type a region code you want the
player to have. (0 is all region) Then press ENTER on the remote after
    changing the setting.

    6. To exit the menu and save your settings, make sure nothing is
in front of your player (Glass door, etc...) and push OPEN/CLOSE with
    the remote.

i don't know what cable you are using to connect to your precious TV,

if you are using the 3 RCA progressive cable, try to use the S -video connector, you need to have one if you don't have and connect it to your TV video 2 input.

one reason you cant see the image from the DVD player is , might have been set to use
S -video not the 3 RCA cable. in which case it is the reverse if you are using the S-video

connector , it might have been set to 3 RCA cable.

if there is still no signal from your DVD, try other TV or try using an RF modulator just to verify which output is being used by your DVD player. the solution will not work till there is no signal coming from your DVD.

i am just wondering how you have change from PAL to NTSC and having no signal.

how did you know it is PAL and it is NTSC?

Change ntsc to pal

The manual seems to indicate that the TV will automatically detect what signal type is present, so PAL should be recognized. There is, however the possibility that the "Color System" setting under the system menu may not be set to "AUTO", but NTSC. This would cause a conflict when detecting PAL input and affect picture. Check the "Color System" and either select PAL or AUTO and see if that helps.

My dvd player is outputing a black and white picture both on its own screen and when connected to a tv.

Hello,

this has to do with picture compatibility between the TV and the DVD player.

To resolve this, check picture settings from your TV and change it to PAL or AUTO.

From DVD, change to NTSC or PAL. This could be gotten directly from the DVD remote.

All the best.

Denon Dvd-2910 only displays black and white on the tv screen

Hello,

this is not a serious problem. It just has to do with visual compatibility.

Change the DVD display to Pal or NTSC and set that of the TV to Auto or pal.

You might find the PAL/NTSC on the DVD remote, or on the button of the DVD. If it is not there, then Check display settings of the DVD.

As for the TV, Change to Auto or Pal from display settings.

Take care.

I can only record and play back in black and white.

siri,

for the black and white screen output of your DVD and VCR.

1) for DVD player: using remote control locate "setup" button and click.a dialogue box should appear indicating " audio setup" video setup" etc.....
2) select and scroll to "video setup". in video setup there should be an option to choose "AUTO" "PAL" or "NTSC"
3) choose "auto" then check if any change in screen color.

for VCR, locate a switch or button indicating "PAL" "Auto""PAL SECAM" "NTSC". same with the dvd choose and select "auto"

note: if you still have the manual for both VCR and DVD check the instruction with regards to video color setting.

cheers,
mark
