Wrt54gx4 was working and now cannot get a connection between the router and dsl modem. have tried to find new netware but cannot get it to download. Have heard linksys has had a lot of this type of problems. I have had the unit for several years and had no problems.

1. You may have a an IP address conflict.
2. check the device connected to the router
all computer need to be connected at the same time.
3. Bring all the computers up one at a time and this should resolve the address conflict.

I had a similar issue a while back and found that sometimes modems are finicky with the MTU settings. I had to throttle mine down about 20 points to get it to stay connected. Check with your provider. Their Tech Support should be able to tell you if there is an alternate MTU setting at work here.

Your new ISP is DSL. the router was working before with the cable modem. The settings for the cable and DSL ISP are different. Now your computer is working when you connect it directly to the DSL modem. that means the modem is working.
The DSL modem works on 2 different modes.
You will need to check which mode is your modem working on and according to the settings of your modem you will need to set up the router.
To change the settings of the router, you will need to open the set up page of the router.

So if you connect the computer directly to the modem , it works .
That means your modem is working properly. Your ISP is DSL connection. Now connect the modem to the router and the computer to the router. Open the router xet up page and change the settings of the router according to the type of connection you have.
There are 2 types of connection in DSL.
DHCP and PPPOE .

Try connecting your laptop directly to the dsl modem to make sure that it is working correctly.
If the dsl modem is working correctly then:
1. Turn off the power on the router and dsl modem.
2. After about 2 minutes, turn on the dsl modem.
3. Wait another 2 minutes, then turn on the router.

Occasionally you need to do this to get them back in synch. If this doesn't work you may need to use the software utility to reconfigure the router.

Yes you can use this router to a DSL or Cable Internet Service, so it will be fine if you switch from cable to DSL......

First, make sure the dsl is working by connecting it to your computer directly.

Next, turn the router off, turn the dsl modem off, connect the dsl modem to the router. Start the dsl modem first, then start the router, then start your computer and try to connect.

192.168.1.1 than enter ur login & password

than reset the router to fabric setting when done go back in the router and configure it as u like to have it

• U will be able to go online ....
• And after it is done ...u can do the wireless settings ....
• then connect to network and u will be perfectly able to go online ....

Change the calbe from the router to the dsl modem. Make sure you check labels on the rear of these devices to make sure the connections go where indicated. Is there and ethernet light on your modem. If that is on then the connection is made. Also check if the DSL modem works directly connected to the pc.
