Question about Sony KP-41T65 41" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

I am having a shadow/double image problem only on the left side of the screen

The double image is most noticeable when i have text up on the screen(i'm using the internet function with my Wii). I have tried using the menu options to center the red and blue cross thing. The picture is great everywhere else except the left hand side(as great as a rear projection can be). Is there a "convergence" part i can buy to replace the one in the tv?? i looked on and i don't know the name of the part! please help! thanks,

    Ok, do you have any idea how to adjust the convergence other than the red and blue cross?? i really don't see any problem with the picture watching tv, but when there is text, it almost makes me dizzy to watch!

  • Ken99287 Jan 11, 2008

    ok, so i'm in the menu, and there's like.... 500 different settings, i messed around with some and i think i'm on the right track - i just need to know what the abbreviations mean and what order to change them and to what settings... is there anywhere i can find that info??? i'm soooo close!! thanks sooo much though - you've definately got me on the right track!

  • Ken99287 Jan 11, 2008

    i actually shut the tv off and i guess my settings weren't saved - which is good, i had it all out of wack. now it's just the same as before where the top left side has a yellowish greenish shadow. i'm sure one of those settings will let me warp that color back in sync with the rest of the screen! where can i find a code chart thing? THANKS!!

  • Ken99287 Jan 12, 2008

    wow, that is extremely useful information! now i just need to understand it, haha. maybe i'll get lucky. are there any of those adjustments that seem like a good place to start?? thanks a million!

  • Ken99287 Jan 12, 2008

    oh yeah, one last thing - when i was messing with it yesterday, the settings all went back to the way they were when i shut the tv off. how do i get my changes to save??

Yes its called the Convergence ICs there are two of them they are mounted on a huge heat sink with the part number stamped on them they will have a STK number such as STK392-110. they have 16 pins on them there are two cost around 10 dollars each, you will also need some Heat sink Compound. Just look for the largest heat sink in your tv and thats where they will be. However if you can move both red and blue colors up,down right and left its probaly not your ICs. Do the colors move in all directions? If so you probaly just need to do a multipoint convergence adjustment.via of the service menu. Hope this helps. let me know if you need anything further.

    You can enter the service mode by turning the set off. Then using the remote press Display, 5, Vol UP, then power. Write down anything that you change so you can change it back if you need too. Use #1 and #4 to select items to adjust and #3 and #4 to adjust.You will be looking for coarse convergence, fine convergence or Multipoint convergence your set should have at least two in the service menu. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    I would start with the convergence items. If your red say is off i would concentrate on just the red conversion items. Just write down what the origional values were and how you changed them. If you do mess up just unplug the set and it will go back to the default settings. Just go slow and take notes.

    Heres how you navigate through the service menu and save changes. Once you save all default ones will be gone so remember to write down anything you change. Hope this helps.

      [1] = Moves to Previous Menu Item
      [4] = Moves to Next Menu Item
      [3] = Adjusts Value Up
      [6] = Adjusts Value Down
      [MTS] = Toggles Stereo/Mono Audio

      [MUTE] followed by [ENTER] = stores NEW service mode settings to NVRAM

I read through other solutions to this problem because I had the same problem. I checked to make sure electrical cords were properly attached, and vola! problem solved! I had no idea this problem could be fixed just by checking the cord connections. Thanks a million for posting this solution. I had been putting up with the shadowing, streaking for months! You really made my day.
