Question about Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Corrupt discs If recording a program each week, after around 3 or 4 weeks halfway in to disc I get a message "bad disc please check!!!!" recording stops and unit goes into recover mode making disc unusable, small padlock is locked and can't be unlocked( Disc will still play in unit but not finalise) this has happened alot on DVD-R discs I was told it is because I take the disc in and out to many times so have tried  recording and saving on sky+ then recording them all in a continuous run leaving disc in the player this has been better, but still happens now and again, I then tried Panasonic type 2 RAM discs in a cartridge, still it happens. All disc are new and scratch/finger print free does it on cheap and top range discs. I also have a second machine that has just started to do this as well my local agent said the drive unit has gone down and needs to be changed.

Two in ten discs usually are corrupt out of the box unfortunately. Try a different brand. As for it coming out in 4:3 or 16:9 try the settings on your SKY box. This should work.

My DVD recorder doesn;t record. When I go to replay there is nothing on the Recorded list. (The message PSO is showing on the front of the recorder. Is this coneected?)

Ok recording is impossible.
1.this unit may not record programs that contain copy protection signal.
2.Check that there is nothing on the disc to start off with.
3.check that the disc is CPRM compatible.copy onc programmes can only be copied onto the disc which is CPRM compatible.
4.check if the the disc is protected or finalised.Undo the protection or the finalisation.
5.DVD-RW usually once formatted in another unit cannot be recorded in your unit unless formatted.
6.Check all connections are properly made.

Says blank DVD-RW is not formatted, then formats -- then error

I have same TOSHIBA D-VR4XSU VCR/DVD RECORDER. According to the
manual, you (COULD) can use for recording: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R (see page 50). WRONG!!! I bought all 3 types of discs, but after few
weeks I got same experience you got now. Just type DVD-R works. The other
types were - wasted money and a lot of time trying to finalize the disc. I had to
throw all into the garbage. Try DVD-R and you should?? be O.K.

DVD+RW playback problem(s)

same prob with the shows freezing up

with a DVD+/- RW disc the amout of time keeps dropping because with every recording process the disc loses a life you can burn those disc 200 times before they become useless so the disc might be beyond the life peroid or bad

my prob is with the DVD-/+R disc tho and i figured it out the disc was bad

for the grinding noise if its hi piched its normal thats the disc spinning up to read or write speed

if that not the case something is rubbing in there and that might explaine the writting errors

the disc manurfacture dose not take resposnablity for defective disc and any loss they have caused(if the data is lost)

Won't Read blank disc!!

I my DVD-HR735 wont recognise any discs at times, and is getting worse. I've now discovered (out of frustration) that if I tip the front up to between 30-45 degrees, it will play all the discs it says were unreadable. I've started jamming three dvd boxes under the front of the machine when i want to play dvds.

HDD Corrupt

I have the XS35 and the HDD drive is curropt. Can I do the following?

1. Download the Toshiba firmware update:

2. Burn the ISO to a CD-R disc. ImgBurn is an excellent free burner for this.

3. Insert the CD in your unit. It will auto-install the firmware. Follow onscreen instructions. Takes about 10 minutes total.

After the update, my existing HDD shows are playable again, and I can record and playback from the HDD. I bet it would be a good idea to periodically backup your shows on DVDs, and regularly reformat the HDD.

Problems finalizing discs

Check to see if you are using 16x media.  If you are you need to get a firmware upgrade from Toshiba.  Contact their support number listed inside of the manual.  They will ship you a dvd to insert into the unit.
