When I click on the game icon on the upper left hand side of the wii main page, my wii tries to load the game but after a couple of seconds of a black screen my wii goes back to the wii main page. No error messages, it just won't work. Has anyone else ran into this before? If so what is the fix?

-   My Wii does the same thing. I've found that doing a hard power-off (holding in the power button on the console for over 6-7 seconds) along with unplugging the system for 30 seconds will correct the problem most of the time. I would still like to know what the root cause of the problem is.-   pctweaker

I had the same problem. No new games would play but the old games played fine. I clicked on the spinning disc icon (where the game should come up) and it prompted me to do an update. I accepted. Once the update was complete (took about a minute or 2) the new games worked fine.

Have same problem with new games while old ones still work OK. Have returned console to Nintendo for repair - as they suggest. Still same problem. In fact an old game is now no longer working as described above. Am going to friends where they have one of new games working fine to check if it's game or console

- Have tried games that are not working on my console at friends house & they are working fine there. So it seems problem is with console. Mine was purchased in August 2007, theirs in December 2007, one of the new batch. Seems the problem is with the console. Still waiting to heaer back from Nintendo as to what they did/didn't do with repair & what next step is.

- Have received new console from Nintendo & intially had same problem again. However, when trying WITHOUT controller re-charger attached, games work perfectly. DOn't understand why, but no longer using re-charger!

This only happens sometimes with me and when using different disks. The start screen for the game appears and I click start then the screen goes black and the wiimote goes dead. I have to eject the disk and switch the wii off and on again. Generally it works the second time. I have found if I insert a disk and leave it for a while - talking a good few minutes here it seems to work fine.
