Model is Ricoh Aficio SP C221SF

It gives error code SC542, which started occurring after a power outage. I read that this is a fuser lock-down protection mechanism and I need to reset the fuser configuration under service mode.

I actually need support as to (i) how to enter service mode and (ii) how to reset this error code.

    Thanks!

There is no yellow / reset button on my printer. I saw this solution somewhere else on the internet but I don`t think it is designed for my model.

  • Gustavo Saito Nov 21, 2009

Thank you for tyhe reply but my printer does not have neither an ONLINE key nor a ESCAPE key. I saw this Online/Escape key solution elsewhere on the internet but I think it applies to other models, not mine. Mine is a Ricoh Aficio C221SF. Thank you.

I managed to contact a Ricoh representative who gave me correct sequence for this printer. It is 90% similar to the "1,0,7" combination I was presented by some of the experts here, but there are small twists that were preventing the sequence from working before. Below I transcribe what I received from Ricoh:

<<< Error code "SC542" reset procedure for Ricoh SP C221SF: >>>

    A) Entering the Maintenance Mode Menu

    1. Turn on the machine.
    2. Press these keys in the following order: "Clear/Stop", "1", "0", "7" and "Color Start"
    3. "Maintenance Mode" is displayed on the LCD.

    B) Selecting an Item

    1. To select an item, press the "Up" or "Down" key.
    2. To go into the next level of an item, select an item then press the "OK" key.
    3. To return to the previous level of an item, press the "Return" key.

    C) Fixing SC542 error code

    1. Select "Engine Maintenance" and press "OK"
    2. Select "Fuser SC Reset" and press "OK"
    3. Select "Execute" and press "OK"
    4. Return to main screen by either pressing "Return" key several times

    D) Turn off and then turn on. Error code should disappear.

This worked like a charm! Printer is good as new.

To enter the service mode of a Ricoh Afficio:

Hold down the two arrow keys and count to 5, hit the enter key.

This is for a 3800 not a 221SF, but I suspect the access to service mode is the same. Let me know if it is not & I will source the proper sequence for you.

I hope that helps.

Press the Clear key, enter 107 (one hundred seven) on the keypad and press Clear key. Clear key must be kept pressed for 3-4 seconds.

The reset fuser code may be found here (for the 200 model, but Ricoh is quite consistent in using the same codes wherever they can).

Hi,

Below is the reset method:

1. Press the yellow (reset) key
2. Type 107 on the keypad
3. Press and hold down the red (clear/stop) key until the display changes (3-5sec)
4. Turn Main power switch Off and then On again. The main switch placed behind a lid or on the side of the printer, not the power switch close to the keypad.

This will fix the issue.

Thank you for using fixya.

How t reset fuser error c6000 for taskalfa 180

Hi,
Fuser reset: Press 'system menu/counter' key, select 'service setting', then while pressing 'start' and '#', press 'enter'. Select 'Maintenance mode', then press 'enter'. Enter '163' using the up/down keys, then press 'enter'. Turn machine off to exit Maintenance mode. C6000 indicates fuser did not come up to temp in the allotted time; you 'may' have a bad heater lamp if code reappears. Good luck.........

Thanks,

the C000 code is a fuser error code on this machine. It can "sometimes" pop up after a power surge/spike/loss event, and needs to be reset in service technician mode. If it doesn't reset, but rather comes back, you probably need a sevice call for something defective in the fuser (lamp, fuse, thermister).

IF YOU'RE GAME, here it is...

To enter service simulation: press"Additional Functions" to enter "User mode". Press # key. Press </> to select a menu item. enter new data using number keys. Press "Set/OK" key. Press Stop/additional functions to exit.

Note: To reset E000, E001, E002, E003, go to service mode 4. select SET, go to "#7 PRINT-ER," in service mode. Then press Execute "#4 PRINTER RESET." Power the unit off/on.
