Reset the player, make sure the headphones are parallel to the top of the player. That is all you can do.
If you gave to friend, there are two possibilities - he/she plugged it into his computer, which reformatted the player - not a good problem to have (BTW, this is THE WORST mp3 player ever made - officially). Or he damaged the headphone jack -also not a good problem to have. The company no longer supports these players, so you are out of luck if either of these two possibilities happened.
There is no manual available - so if you have one, post it to this website -we've been trying to get one for months.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard
This player only seems to be able to transfer MP3 format with Vista, using windows media player syne. Unless someone found otherwise.
When using XP Pro and Windows Media Player you can transfer WMA but you have to go into the PROPERTIES of the drive (mine was mp-556/G: drive) and DESELECT the option to transfer folder hierecy. The MP3 player is not able to reconginize the folder structure it usually creates.
if you have a ilo model mp-556 (on the back cover) this page has links to the firmware ... i follow the instruction and got mine working.
u might need to use the reformat as well as the upgrade firmware to make your list read the same. reformating will set your storage area back to factory specs. i e delete all your songs on your player
