Recheck data cable for wear & power cable for a possible short. If possible use another power connector within the system.

Hardware Detection problem with ASUS K8VMX Mother Board

Firstly, Put a new battery on your motherboard(usually a cr2032).
Unplug everything except the ram and try to boot up.
Switch off and gradually attach one component at a time and reboot.
Remember to turn off every time you add a component.
This happens because your bios chip is getting mixed up because you are changing the configuration all the time.
Hope this helps

Why litium battery in mother board(intel, asus)?

The lithium battery is use to power up the RTC/CMOS chip which stores the date and time, and some essential configuration settings for your motherboard. If you notice that your computer clock is not displaying the proper date and/or time after you set it correctly, then you may have to change the battery.
