The most common failure for these sets to go totally dead is the degaussing thermistor shorts out thus causing the A.C. fuse to open. The part number for the thermistor is D4DDF1R50001 and the fuse is part number XBA2A00101F... You can do a Google search for these parts. One you get the parts and look at the board where the A.C. cord connects to, the fuse and thermistor are not too far from that point. Its an easy fix if you have any soldering skills. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

If you left it plugged to the wall then an overnight tension peak may have burned the TV internal fuse. If you have electronics knowledge, unscrew the back of the TV and replace inner fuse. If you don´t have electronics or electricity knowledge, don't attempt to do so, you may end doing more damage than good. Take it to an electronics repair store. Sorry for may very poor english, I'm Argentinian.

My tenplus year old Toshiba 32" TV is stuck in standby mode

You have an old tv so the best problems are bad capacitors and bad grounds. Have someone pull the board and search for high voltage caps [160volts or 250 volts] with 1 to 4.7 microfarads. Should be two or maybe three and check all grounds. If the 4 amp fuse is good than the above will save your TV.

Tv won't turn on

Was the power button from the main outlet(wall) kept in the ON (position)throughout the knight! i.e. switched off by the remote only? In that case a power surge druing the night could have fried some part of the TV circuit. In such case there are many fuses inside the TV which need to be checked out If the main tubes are gone kaput then better to replace the entire set......................sodeep
