Laptop is shutting down suddenly, it is plugged in via an ac adapter. The computer will not restart when the power button is pressed. Same results hours later after the pc has cooled. PC is about 2-3 years old and still has its original battery.

Turns out that the AC adapter had come unplugged from the AD/DC converter, the laptop ran on battery power until dead, the computer then suddenly shut down and would not restart. Laptop is running normally with AC adapter plugged in...sorry for the false alarm...

This could be a few things, is thye fan working Whilst it is on? if not it is overhheating and the sensor is shutting it down into protection mode. The time it takes to recover seems to indicate this is what is happening.

It could also be a faulty battery, remove it and plug into AC and see if there is any change in behaviour.

Could be a problem with your motherboard or the processor which can over heat very quickly and easily make sure that the laptop is put on a straight hard surface so the hot air can get out of the pc. if it does not then the processor will over heat and turn off your pc.

Try this :

1. unplug the ac adapter and remove the battery .
2. press and hold power button for a minute
3. now put the battery back and plug in ac adapter
4. turn on the laptop now

it should work.

if not, try removing hard drive and memory modules then reinstall them back.

Hi there there was the same problem with my Fujitsu laptop as well you can try this step

1) Try to change different wall outlet
2) Shut down your computer and disconnect the battery and also the Ac adapter which is connected to your laptop, and then once your computer is Off just press and hold power button for at least 15-20 sec and yes do not lift your finger from the power button
3) Reconnect everything Battery as well as your Ac adapter, and try to see if the issue is resolved or not
4) Just download latest BIOS update from your computer manufacture website , Flash BIOS and check if the issue is resolved or not
5) If everything fails just try and check if the Ac adapter pin is burnt or not, you will see a black spot or something like a burnt spot on the Ac adapter pin of your laptop, if you see this just take any sharp device like Knife etc just scratch clean the black spot and once the black spot is properly cleaned then just connect the pin to the wall outlet and t see the Magic

Hey guys if you really think this works just post you comments or likes so that i will feel happy , really this things works on my 1 year old Fujitsu laptop and i have also worked for
companies like HP and Dell.

try to take out the battery and disconnect the AC adapter. Press and hold down the power button for approx 10 to 15 seconds to discharge any power left to it. Wait for about a minute, reconnect the battery and AC adapter and try to turn it on. If it powers and but does not boot to the OS, try to tap F12 key a few times when it restarts and from the One Time Boot Menu, select Last Known-Good Configuration and press Enter. HOpe this helps.

Toshiba Satellite L300 shuts down when ac power plugged in

How about this step, try to turn off the laptop itself. Remove the cables and battery just like what you did before, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then, reinsert the cables and battery on the laptop and then turn on the computer itself. If the laptop restarts, shuts down or freezes with the AC power cables, two things that you should seriously consider. It might be the power cable itself, AC cable port or the circuitry going to the motherboard. And since you have cleaned out the fan and heat sink, you have isolated that problem. Have you plug-in another power cable on your laptop? If yes, then check if it works. Otherwise, the main issue is that the AC port is loose or the circuitry of AC adapter going to the motherboard is not not working. You can re-open the unit and check the circuitry from the AC port going to the motherboard. You may check the circuitry from AC port to the power supply if it is ok. If symptom persist, please contact your local dealer...

Hang

There is not a reset button that model. The only other way to force restart it would be to unplug the computer from the outlet. This is not a recommended method but, it can be used a last resort if your computer is hanging.

Will not boot up or turn on though it is getting power

The Charger could be bad, Try replacing that, or let charge, then try to turn on. The laptop might not boot with AC power. kinda stupid but maybe. If that doesn't work, the AC adapter is bad.
