Door switch The door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover, or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it.

Need to know how to light the pilot. This is a year old house & builder did not leave the manual

Hi Alice:

Don't know whereyou are, but with a 1 year old appliance, you should have the manual.
Your local authorithy (Building Official at City Hall) should be able to access your property file and give you the info you need to be able to contact the appliance supplier (or builder) so that you can get the proper manual.
Seriously, the Builder has a safety obligation to provide that information.

And, you as the purchaser, have a right to expect it.

Please contact your local authority.

My son and daughter in law bought a new home with all ge appliances and the dishwasher is americana. the dishwasher from the start has never worked properly. the water is cold and the drying cycle doesn't...

I agree, especially if it is less than 1 year old. See if the builder of the house will make arrangements for repair or replacement under his guarantee. If not then try the store or company that supplied the dishwasher. If the appliance was registered with the manufacturer when it was intstalled and if it is still under warrantee you should be able to get GE to handle it directly. Here is contact info for GE:

Have a trouble: dish-washer will not drain.

I just moved into a new house and builder had provided a dish washer drain just below my kitchen drain line.

DIsh washer install was done by me, every thing worked out OK except dish washer would not drain after a wash cycle.

Cause: drain provided by builder was blocked and needed a circular small cut before mounting drain hose over it.
