Uninstall the sound driver from the Device Manager. The sound driver is listed under the "sound, video and game controllers" category in the Device Manager.

Right click on the sound device in the Device manager and click Uninstall then restart the Computer. After restarting the Computer, download the appropriate sound driver for the Computer from the manufacturer website and reinstall it.

How do install the sound card?

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device

The audio (Sound) chipset is the device in question.
Windows XP and Windows 7 are two examples of an O/S.

Go to the laptop manufacturer's support website, find your laptop, and Drivers.
Download the audio driver you need, AND install it.

Then post the laptop manufacturer and model number, plus the Operating System you are using.

(Bottom of laptop has the Model Number. For an HP laptop, for example, the info is on a white Service Tag on the bottom. P/N = Product Number, and what I need)

No sound!!!

Some speakers do not need to be plugged into power and some do. Have you recently removed the speaker system from your computer and put it back without remembering the power? You can look for a power plugin on the back or bottom of one of the speakers, usually.

No sound from my dell 3100 exsternal speakers are working.

Hi there.
On the computer look at the bottom right hand side of the screen, click on the speaker icon and see if there are any sound devices installed on the computer. If there is make sure it not on mute and that its at 100%, then play a tune.
plug the main speaker jack into the green port at the back of the computer, if its not the green one try the others too.
If there is no driver installed post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Compaq Presario R3000 Sound card follow-up question

The sound board is connected to the mainboard by a connector and contra-connector, both soldered to their boards.. If you want to do it right, you will have to remove several screws from that bottom corner and left side, under the battery too, so that you can lift up the mainboard's corner (gently!) a bit, and put in back in place firmly. It is located just above the top left side of the battery compartment, when looking at the bottom with the front toward you. A more durable option is to take the bugger apart, and put washers max. 1mm thick under the soundboard to get a better snap-in on those connectors.

I need a driver for my sound card, my motherboard is Intel PCIset FW82371AB F751VC17 SL23P, but I don`t to find that, please help me. cant find my sound card model??!! any help! thanks

First of all you need to find out what sound chip you have on your motherboard. Download and install PC Wizard and click onto the loudspeaker icon. This should give you all the info you need about your computer. If you still cannot locate a suitable driver on the web come back and I will have a look for you.

PC wizard download is at the bottom of the page.
