Re: slight doubling of picture, horizontal color arc at...

Hi, your problem is convergence circuitry. I will get worse then stop. There is 4 things that may cause your problem.
Listed is the most likely to the leased likely.
1- bad convergence ic, I would need to know what colour is the most effected to tell you exsacly witch of the two is gone. Look at the back for ic location IK04/05 for stk392-110.
2- bad resistors, were the ic's or located look for bad resistors, mostly 1 to 3 ohms. I've seen some bads' one
3-power supply, these ic's have power going to them, pine 4/8/12/17 or -23 and pine 5/10 or+23 if they or low or have riple would be also your source, these source's or derived from the power supply look for bad cap's, burt fuse( pico style) or could bad regulator (ic's, transistor, diode).
4- alway's look for cold solder joints, it's a small posibility, but it may be your cause for bad regulation or changes in power goin in or out of the convergence ic's

I hope this help's

Starting last night our tv has had a "ghost" thing

What you have is a very common convergence issue which could either be rather spendy if you take it to a technician like me. It usually costs approximately between $300-$400 if yo bring it to someone who knows what they are doing OR you could go to and order the convergence repair kit for about $75-$80. Ed will set you up with the resistors, the integrated circuits, thermal paste, and step by step directions. It would take a novice about an hour and a half to complete the repair and you would save yourself some money. Sorry, there is no scan option to fix it.

Red and blue ghosting,

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Big screen showing double and red ghost color

Go into your service menu and try to adjust the convergence, if it does not adjust, the IC's ( chips) are bad in that circuit. Call a local factory authorized dealer to service your tv. The cost should run around $450.00. Good luck.
