How to transfer videos from Sony Handy Cam CCD TR 317 E

Check if you have a Firewire port that is either a 6pin or 4 pin port that looks like
85698237-3c77-4431-af71-e3d926026ab2.jpg
Use a firewire IEEE 1394 cable kit and appropriate software too transfer to PC. Most firewire to usb cable will not work.
You will need a
1. Firewire cable
2. Firewire port on PC/Laptop as well.
3. Recent OS that supports firewire.
4. Appropriate image/video editing software.

Where can i get a cable to link my mv890 to laptop so i can put my films on to dvd

Firewire is what you require. Most computer shops will sell firewire cables.
You will need to find out what type of socket goes to the computer. The camera uses a 4 pin socket and most computers use a six pin. Generally a 4 to 6 pin cable is used for Desktop Top computers. Laptops usually use 4 pin, so a 4 to 4 pin cable would be that option. Newer computers use 800 firewire ports that have a 9 pin port, 4 to 9 pin in this case.
There are 3 options, so check the camera and computer to make sure you get the correct cable.
Firewire is also called iLink or IEEE1394a for 400 and IEEE1394b for 800.

Advice was given to me to buy firewire cable as my sony handycam DCR-TRV22E wont recognize by my mac OS X ver. 10.6.6? what type of firewire shld i buy?

I'm glad to provide the information about the required firewire cable.
All Sony Camcorders are having 4 pin firewire/i.LINK port.
You can purchase a Firewire cable depends upon the number of pins available on the firewire port on the Computer.
If you have 4 pin firewire port in the Computer, you can purchase a 4 to 4 pin Firewire cable.
If you have 6 pin Firewire port in your Computer, you can purchase 4 to 6 pin i.LINK cable.
In rare cases, it may also 4 to 9 pin.
Please refer the manual of your computer or contact apple to get the information about the number of pins available on the Computer.
You may also get back to me with the model # of the Computer so that I might be able to check the pin information.
Thanks for understanding.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know..

I have a jvc gr-d33 and am trying to transfer mini dv to dvd through my laptop toshiba satellite l355. on my jvc i have the 4 pin dv and know it has to transfer through firewire but on my toshiba i dont...

I'm afraid that there is chatter on the forums that these Firewire to USB convertors don't work properly with video cameras. That doesn't mean you can't try it, of course.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. If you have a Windows desktop PC, you can fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card. No help on a laptop unfortunately.

Hello, My laptop does not have a firewire port. What do I have to do to transfer video to my laptop from my GL2?

What brand and model is your laptop?
Since we don't know the laptop model I have to cover a little more info here.

Most laptops have at least 1 expansion ports available on the side and you can use that to add additional ports or features if needed such as Firewire, USB2.0, or Ethernet, etc

Older laptops came with 1 or 2 full size PCMCIA ports. Those are rarely used anymore.

Newer laptops usually have an ExpressCard port.
These newer cards come with either 54 or 34 pins so you'd need to get the right one for your laptop.

For example, view the main ExpressCard info here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard

Be aware that Firewire is officially known as the "IEEE1394" protocol. So some sites may refer to it with that name and it's the same thing. Apple calls it Firewire and Sony calls it iLink.

There are several different pin configurations for firewire.
Original 400Mbps speed Firewire from 1995 has a mini 4 pin or a full size 6 pin cable.

Newer Firewire 800 has 800Mbps speed and is called 1394b.
That has it's own cable connector as well and is not very common. It's much faster than USB (even Firewire 400 is ) but it didn't get used a lot.

The firewire connector s are visible here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1394_interface

The Canon GL2 uses the original 400Mbps 1394 protocol but the connector might be proprietary since it appears to have 5 pins.
It's visible here from the user manual.
23c8825.jpg

There are 6-pin sockets and smaller (non-powered) 4 pin sockets and they are both still "firewire" but the small one has less options since it has no power connections with it. So the small connections can send data but can't run a portable hard drive or anything that needs power.

The small connectors are used for laptop ports and camcorders while full size desktops usually have the full size 6 pin ports. So to connect the 2 they make adapter cables with one of each type on each end.

Such as this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-IEEE-1394-4-Pin-FireWire-Meters/dp/B000165AS0

That fits most applications but I think the Canon cable is proprietary, so hopefully you have the original cable.

So,
You probably need a laptop 1393 DV expansion card, DV editing software and the right cable. The socket on the GL2 doesn't look like a typical IEEE connector in the user manual so that may be Canon specific. If you still have the original cable that came with it then you're all set.

You can find a laptop expansion card online such as doing a search on Amazon.com with the words expresscard + 1394 and you will see many ExpressCard adapters to pick from.
Get the laptop 1394 expansion card that matches your Canon Cable and that can plug into your laptop on the other end (choose the right 54 or 34 pin type) that matches your laptop.

Your how can i load my footage to pc from sony DCR-HC52E via firewire

Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DV Out/In cable missing

You need a Firewire (also called IEEE1394) cable to transfer DV to your computer. I buy mine here, usually:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10301

There are 4-pin, 6-pin, and 9-pin Firewire connectors. Virtually all camcorders sport the 4-pin variety. Most PC laptops do as well (if there's a built-in port) so for camcorder interface, you would need a 4-pin to 4-pin cable. Most PC desktops that support Firewire use the 6-pin cable, so you would buy a 6-pin to 4-pin cable to hook up to the camcorder. Some Apple Macintosh computers and high-end PCs may support an 9-pin port as well, which is the newer, faster version of Firewire, but offers no advantage when talking to a camcorder.

If you haven't used your computer with a Firewire device before, do make sure you have one. These are available as PCI cards, PCIexpress cards, PC cards, and ExpressPort cards. It's pretty common for a modern desktop PC to have one or two Firewire ports. They're not uncommon on laptops, but do check.
