Motor shuts off when you are not accelterating

Try this

Here is the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.

To correct this problem Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.

Why does my car idle up and down

This is called idle surge, do the following to correct it 90% of the time. Read the many symptoms and then do the procedure exactly as outlined by nme in the article I wrote about this.

To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won

Idles low when ac/heat is on and lights dim

fix the idle speed to 850-900 rpm
check the alternator and voltage regulator as the voltage should read 14.5-14.8 volts dc at 1000rpm or higher regardless of what is running
have it bench tested by an accredited auto electrician

What is the function of the idle speed control valve?

The idle air control (IAC) valve assembly on a combustible engine monitors and manipulates the amount of controlled air moving around the throttle plate. The IAC valve is managed by the electronic control module (ECM) of the engine, which calculates the position of the IAC valve. Voltage pulses called counts extend and retract an internal conical-tipped shaft called a pintle inside the IAC valve. When the pintle is extended, the cone-shaped tip positions itself closer to the air inlet and restricts the amount of air allowed to pass through the throttle, building up more air around the throttle plate to increase the rpms of the engine. When the pintle is retracted, it moves away from the inlet and allows more air into the throttle away from the throttle plate, decreasing the rpms. The IAC valve operates and adjusts constantly while the engine is running to help prevent the engine from stalling or surging. This will not cause the engine to misfire!! Hopefully this helps

91 mazda 626 erractic idle surge when engine is cold

My '91 626 did the same thing. I tested the throttle position sensor, and it was good so that wasn't it. The other likely culprit is the Idle Speed Control valve, or Idle Air Control valve, which is a $500 part new (more than I paid for the whole car). I pulled one off a 626 at the salvage yard and got it for 3 bucks, put it on (it's an easy DIY, just 4 philips screws holding it to the intake manifold), however I can't be sure that solved the problem, since I haven't run the car much since then. It would seem the most likely cause, tho, and a cheap fix if you go used. Other possibilities: O2 sensor or Mass Air Flow sensor?

Dodge ram 1500 engine rpms surge at freeway speed

those sensors could cause the issue, clean the MAF 1st, also clean the idle system using the following procedure, the IAC can cause cruise surge. I use this to cure these problems all the time.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve (IAC) and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
