Look in your manual! The menu functions on some of these Insignia TV's are hard to see and use because of their location. Using the remote should be a lot easier, as long as you still have the original that came with the LCDTV.

I cannot take the captios off my tv even though its off

If the captions still come on even if you have them turned off on the TV, then they are coming from some other device. This is common if you are using a satellite receiver or cable converter box. These devices provide closed captioning as well, and you probably have it turned on there. Check the setting on whichever one you have, and shut off the captions. This should clear up the mystery. Thanks for using Fixya!

Closed Caption-disable

I cannot find a permanent solution for this problem. All I can find is to press the cc repeatedly until it says off or mute. I looked in the book.
Sometimes cc will come on during a show. I think it is certain channels (abc) makes it come on certain shows and you will have to cycle the cc button again to make it go off. The Mute setting will make the chosen language come on when you press MUTE.
Spanish comes on mine unless I change to cc1 for English if I want the cc working.

How do I turn off spanish closed caption?

the close caption feature is different than the language in the menu.
Try to find the close caption feature in the menu and get it off. Now if she hit a button then chances are you find some button with that description in the remote control (close caption or text) make sure is off.

Captions come on by itself

If you're properly turning captions off and it still comes back on maybe it's a defect in the TV, contact Toshiba customer service in the manual and ask.

Black box

Make sure your closed-captioning is turned off. This box appears when you have captioning set for "text" mode and the set is on a channel where captions are being broadcast. The TV blanks the part of the screen where the text would go, but there isn't any to display. Some TV's have a single button on the remote to turn captioning on, and it's easy to set the TV for captioning without knowing it.

Closed caption activiting on everytime tv is turned on

If you have the Suddenlink remote and the DVR box you can turn captions on or off by accessing a technical menu. To do this, press POWER and Menu buttons together (menu 2 times) to bring up a special menu. Select Closed Captions. On the popup menu select closed captions and using Select button change to OFF or ON as you wish. The trick is to get the menu to come up. Timing of pressing the two buttons is frustrating and it may take a few times befotre you get the special menu.
