Re: caption keeps coming on without even putting it on

Look in your manual! The menu functions on some of these Insignia TV's are hard to see and use because of their location. Using the remote should be a lot easier, as long as you still have the original that came with the LCDTV.

Black Box on my television.

I have heard complaints from some of my customers, “There is a black box on my television, but I can still see the picture around the edges”. This happens to all of us and is a common symptom and can be fixed very easily. If you have a black box in the picture, on the older sets they would be perfectly centered on the screen, but, on some of the newer sets the black box can be in different places and can be different sizes on different sets.
Most likely the Text mode is on in the Closed Caption menu.
The way you can test if it is in Closed Caption Text mode, when you change the channels, the black box will not appear right away but it will take some time to show back up. This is a very good indication that the Closed Caption “Text” mode is turned on for your television. It just needs to be turned off.
To turn off the closed caption go into your menu and turn off closed caption (CC). This will vary from manufacture to manufacture; it should be in the options menu.
I have seen on some sets like Mitsubishi puts it under the Video adjustments button. So you may have to look around for it.
You may even have a CC button on your remote, which will make it much easier. Just press the CC button until the display indicates that CC it is off.
I hope that this tip helps you and that you enjoy your televisions for years to come.

Certain channel's closed captioning is coming in in spanish. How do I shut that off?

This may or may not be the TV. It is a menu item, but many cable/sat/DVRs also have CC controls. Check both menu systems.

Captions come on by itself

If you're properly turning captions off and it still comes back on maybe it's a defect in the TV, contact Toshiba customer service in the manual and ask.

Closed captioning

The closed captioning has to be sent in another language, and your set will follow it. Call the TV station to find out where they are getting the captioning from, or maybe they can get you directly in touch with the captioning people.

The closed captioning is sent as one of the many information packets during the vertical blanking interval. In the NTSC system, it is sent on line 21 in both the even and odd fields. There are usualy 2 closed captioning selections for text. These are the CC1 and CC2. They are decoded according to their address code.

Closed caption on, but not working

do you have a cable box? is it a motarola box? is it HD box?
if the answer is yes to all of the above then leave the TV on and shut the power off on the cable box on the front of the box. then hit menu on the front of the box, an intrenal menu will come up. using the curser buttons (up/down) scroll to where it says "close caption : disable" use the curser buttons (left/ right) to highlight the disable the use the up/down curser to the "Enable" position now hit menu again then power to turn it back on.
you see close caption is not encoded thru Y, Pb, Pr cables nor is it thru HDMI and no set has decoding for closed caption thru this connection. so it has to be done thru the box.
