I did some fault finding on logic card of the Maxtor drive 160Gb diamond line, it has a Transky diode, on its 12v dc supply i/p, which is used for overshoot protection, the part number of this device (bux c430, made by ST electronics), is however not found any ware, and seems it is a component made especially for maxtor. I contacted ST electronics, and they did'nt even had this device on their data base, the equivalent for this device is however the SMA12A, or SMBJ12A, which solved the problem.

Sorry to tell you this,, but the only way you are going to get that, is to get an old harddrive and scrap it,,, Or you will have to buy a new harddrive , since indivuidal parts are not sold seperately... BTW IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR IT ENSURE YOU ARE USING A CLEAN ROOM ""CLEAN""

Installed new WD HDD (160Gb) into Toshiba Satellite A10-S167. Entered BIOS edit, but can't get laptop to recognize the new HDD (which replaced a smaller, failed HDD)

Shouldn't have any problems on the A10 series working with a 160GB drive, so long as it's an ATA/IDE type with a 44-pin connector. If it's not recognizing the drive, could it be that the pins were not precisely lined-up with the IDE connector? I'd remove the drive, make sure the pins are still all straight, reinsert it into the HDD compartment and see if it makes a difference.

Which are the slave pins on Maxtor diamondMax Plus 9 160GB ATA/133 HDD harddrive???????????

Look for a grid of gold-coloured pins between the power-connector and the data-connector.
Look CLOSELY at the engraving on the top of the disk-drive, near those pins,
looking for 'MA(ster)' or 'SL(ave)' or 'C(able)S(elect)'.

Or, especially for MAXTOR drives, read the text printed on the label on the top of the disk,
for the "pairs" of pins that need to be set.

Install driver of maxtor 160gb onetouch 4 mini

Hmmm What software do you need?
You should not need software to run the HDD. Just plug it in.
You can get the One Touch software from Seagate (who no own Maxtor) See

I need to know the power rating for a Maxtor 160GB external Hard Drive for use with a Yamaha PSRs-900 keyboard. Yamaha requires the rating to be not greater than 500-600mA

The Maxtor STM901601EHD301-RK is part of the Maxtor Basics Portable family.

It uses a 2.5 inch Internal harddrive inside. (2 and a half inches across the Width. Same size used for a laptop. Desktop's use 3.5)

It connects with a USB Style A male plug, via the USB cable.
It's has a 160GB storage capacity, has an 8MB Buffer, (Cache), and an External Data Transfer Rate of 60 MegaBytes per Second.

Other than that, I find no more information from Seagate, (Seagate bought out Maxtor, and has the data base for Maxtor products)

http://hddlist.com/maxtor/all/maxtor_basics_portable

What I do know in reference to your question.
I know that the USB 2.0 technology uses 5 Volts DC. The Positive pin on the USB plug will support up to 5 Volts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB.svg

[Viewing a USB-A style plug, view it with the white plastic spacer at the bottom. Open part at top. The Positive pin is all the way to the right. The Negative pin all the way to the left. The Data + pin is on the left next to the Negative pin. The Data - pin is on the right, next to the Positive pin]

The Maximum current draw is 500 mA for a USB 2.0 port.
[ Current is rated in Amperes, or Amp's. You are looking at Millionths of an Amp.
Milliamp, or abbreviated as mA]

This would lead me to believe that the Maxtor Basics Portable external harddrives will not use more than 500 Milliamp's.

However I do not feel comfortable, telling you that it is okay to use your Maxtor STM901601EHD301-RK, on your Yamaha PSR2-900 keyboard. Would hate to be mistaken, and have you burn out the finals of your keyboard.

I do feel comfortable with the following suggestion.

What about transferring as much data as you can from the Maxtor Basics Portable, to a USB thumb drive? They have large thumb drives now, and hold a lot of data.

Most programs will fit on a large USB thumb drive.
Or am I missing the point somewhere?
