Re: faulty

The only thing you want to remember before you do this is that opening up your XBOX 360 voids all warranties.

Re: faulty

I just solved this problem, very simple actually. Possibly can happen when the drive WILL close, but then loud noise as it tries to spin the disc up. Open the drive up (4 little screws on the bottom) and lift the lid up. If you look on the top white magnet spinner, the bottom side of the magnet system broke off of the disc motor. It will look like a little metal ring stuck to the white spinner thing whatever it's called. I popped that off and examined it, then used some krazy glue to stick it back on the motor spindle and it's away and going now. The reason the drive will not close, is because when the little magnet first breaks off it can get misaligned then when it tries to shut it gets in the way. The MAY be the cause to the problem. I fixed this issue today with mine, hitachi drive.

What do you do when your xbox won't read disks?

The main problem might be a big problem with the disk tray. There might be an faulty wire that has lost connection and if your disk wont event turn on, there might be a problem with the power supply that supplies the cd tray. If the disk opens and closes but doesnt read and wont say tray is in and keeps saying open tray, there might be a small fracture on some of the wires or there is something wrong with the motherboard of the xbox 360. The best way is to buy the warrenty now and send it to the xbox 360.

My xbox only reads my game as a DVD and the game wont play

UMM it does it to me some times aswell but all you need to do is open the disk tray and close it again with the disk in or clean the disk then put it back in and if that doesn't work then turn the console off then back on and if that doesent work then the disk might be faulty.

The xbox 360 elites keeps on saying open tray when trying to play

1, the disc may be dirty
2. the mian reason for this your xbox drive cannot read the disc , because the power of the lens is gone(not completely) ,

1. keep your disc inside the drive and switch off the console, again swith on try this 2 to 3 time
2. keep the console in vertical position or little slanding position(180 dg) make sure it does not fall

3. its better to buy hatddisc and load the game inside it , so that u lens life increased

4. change the entire drive

I turn on my xbox 360 and it says open tray and wont read disc

I have had this happen about 3 times. The first time was when i figured out how to fix it. The 2nd and 3rd were temporary.(Just needed to be turned off for a moment) You need to shut the console off for atleast 15 minutes 10 at the lowest with everthing unplugged. I mean the hard drive, memory unit, and all cables, and adapters. Then after 10-15 minutes plug everything in and DON'T PRESS the BUTTONS ON THE XBOX OR THE CONTROLLERS. Press the button to open the tray and take out the game or dvd and put in a different one. If this doesn't work do it all over again and then put in a different game or dvd not the previous ones and turn on the console the same but then a soon as you get the disc in and closed in shut it off then open the tray and wait till you are at the main menu go into any program so you can't see it is reading and close the tray. If that doesn't work contact the xbox support line. Really hope this works for you.

My xbox 360 cd drive keeps on opening and closing.

Your having a dvd drive problem Im taking a guess but i have fixed many like this before. What you need to do is take your xbox360 apart. You can find a video how to do this on our site next you want to remove your dvd drive take out the four screws on the bottom and remove the top cover. Now make sure your looking at the spindle where the game rest in the middle of your spindle you will normally find two magnets, but in your case your probably wont. Yours are probably stuck to the top of your drive cover. You need to remove them and superglue or epoxy them back in the middle of your spindle. After completely dry put everything back together it should play normal.I recommend a inter-cooler so this wont happen again.

Disc Tray wont stay shut

A lot of people have this problem. Before you post, look around.

Anyway, I was able to call xbox 360 customer support. We did the troubleshooting but it still would not work, so they took my xbox 360 in for repairs. I would not try to fix it on your own because it might negate the warranty.

Have had this happen several times.. maybe due to my childish tempers and the xbox recieving the end brunt of the cheating games and my fist..LOL
Heres how I fixed this.
Your gonna have to open the unit up, very easy to do with several screws at the bottom.
The unit will break away and you will see a chrome protection piece which will need removed also, make sure the unit is unplugged.
After you have it broke apart manually open and close the tray, you will see the lock mechanism which the tray lowers into and the release .
Open and close this several times you may also want to blow out the unit and clean it while its open,{ I use a que tip and alcohol, allow to dry before doing anything}. Close the unit back up and restart it.
This should help.,

Put this in an xbox 360 console

Did you try using a cd lens cleaner in the XBox 360 dvd drive? Check the cds that they are not scratched, and you could have your son try the discs in another XBox 360.
