Question about Pentax Optio W30 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Dark LCD screen

My Pentax Optio W30 shows no image on the LCD monitor. I have tried the trouble shooting options (adjusting the brightness; pressing the display/OK button to cycle through Normal Display, Histogram and Indo, No Info, and Backlight Off). The battery is fully charged, the camera is not connected to a computer or television. When I push the shutter release, the flash discharges.
What can be done?

Re: Dark LCD screen

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Monitor shows white out screen

You can try firmaware update (below link) if available for your model.

But the reason could be also the LCD screen connector inside the camera. So it may need service.

Best thing about this camera is it works great. The worst thing is the factory will not fix or help you get it repaired. They are a very great camera when they work but have a very bad history of failure that is cheaper to throw away and buy a Sony! For the price Sony is a Great Camera and just keep getting better! Lcd screen is black when in bright sunlight,so camera usless in this situation. The rest af the time appears ok! Any ideas which may solve this problem?

Do you mean that you can't see what's on the screen in bright sunlight? This is common on 90% of the point and shoot cameras. Only 10% have brightness controls for the lcd.

White lines on the left side of the screen

well, your camera's LCD has a dead row of pixles you cant fix that, you can try ignoring it, and if yo cant ignore it, then a specialist can probably replace the LCD

Pentax Optio W30 Won't "Open" correctly

Does the camera switch on at all? Can you proceed with other normal operations? Is there in the manual a reset option?

The LCD screen is hard to see. What should I do?

If the LCD screen is too bright or too dark, adjust the LCD Brightness setting in the Setup Menu. If you are shooting photos outdoors in bright light, move the joystick to the icon showing the sun over shaowed area to turn on Outdoor mode and make the LCD screen easier to see in bright light.

Pentax Optio 555 LCD screen blank problem

No I don't believe it is your shutter, more than likely it is a LCD Screen problem. I would suggest you take your camera back to the shop where you purchased the camera and have it serviced under warranty. I had a customer with an Optio 550 come in and it looked like every shot was taken through 'venetian blinds' and the problem was with the LCD Screen and the camera was sent back to Pentax and repaired under warranty.
