Bad colour scan from photograph

Dull, flat, faded colour image, nothing like the original. Reset to default settings - made no difference.

This was my first thought - but the scanner is only about 6 months old - so I wouldnt have thought it was old enough for wear and tear to start setting in ...

How old is the scanner? May be that the bulb in it has faded over time.

There's usually a setting in the scan software to specify if the paper you are scanning is glossy or flat, try that.

Otherwise, you could try the scanner on another computer to see if the problem is reproduced, if so you have a bad scanner. May still be under warranty if it's only 6 months old.

PRINTING IS DULL

A little short on information, but if your machine is Brother colour laser - reset the print output to VIVID. The default setting is more of a halftone print. If your machine is an inkjet, then I think dull is normal for a Brother. I would never recommend one for printing photograghs or high resolution images.

How cheap can you get the film for a polaroid 600 and where

There is, and never has been, cheap film for the Polaroid 600, it was always an expensive way to take photos. If you see it cheaply online then it's usually unusable and a waste of money, but usually it sells for ridiculously high prices.

Original Polaroid 600 film is long-expired and a real gamble as the chemicals may have leaked or dried out and the built-in battery is usually flat. Refrigerated photo packs will definitely have dead batteries as cold kills them even faster.

There is only one supplier of freshly manufactured compatible film now, The Impossible Project. You can buy direct from the company or from a few other suppliers, but the few retail stockists worldwide tend to charge a lot more for it as people will pay for the convenience of instant gratification.

Please read all the information you can on the company website before ordering as there are some important differences between their products and the original Polaroid-manufactured material. The main differences are that you only get 8 photos per pack, not 10, and that the material must be sheltered from light as it develops. It's also not anywhere near as fade resistant, so either scan the images you wish to retain or buy their new Dry Age kit which dries out the chemicals in the photo so they're no longer active. The colour film also uses different dyes so will not look the same as the original colour images.

How do I balance colour on the printer for photo printing?

Have the photo printer run a test/alignment page.
Make sure you are not running out of one color.
Anytime the image runs heavy on one color typically means another color is empty or low and not blending properly.

You can also check the settings to see if it is printing in Draft/Normal/Best Mode. Depends on the settings and application used to control this. Best uses more ink and of course provides the best image. Photo quality paper if you want the best looking pictures. Printing on standard bond will cause some bleeding and saturate the paper. (Looks feels wet) This will give the image a slight blurring dull look.
Depends on the quality of the paper used also.
Hope this helps!

Old Polaroid photos

Having photographic quality copy prints made will give you far longer life than the original Polaroid. Polaroid colour dyes will shift colours and eventually fade dramatically. New photographic (and some ink jet) prints will last generations without noticeable fading.

On preview & scanning I get total red colour image

If you have loaded Adobe 8.X Reader, then unload it, and go to Adobe site and load Adobe 7.02 Reader. Problem will probably go away. Mine did, I can now scan in color again.
