Hi,

Sounds like a memory problem.
Try to remove the memory from your laptop.
If you have more than one dimm, take one out and see if it boots, then replavce the one you left in the laptop and see if it boots.
If your laptop boots with one dimm reinstall the memory and make sure they are snug.

Good Luck, hope this helps, have a great day.

If it does not even post or show the DELL Logo then this may already be a hardware failure. The best thing to do is to contact Dell Tech Support. Specially if you still have warranty. It could already be a couple of things ranging from the memory to the motherboard itself.

My Dell Latitude 600D won't turn on. The A lock button flashes and then it just shuts down. I replaced the ac power supply with a non-Dell one, but it has the same voltage. Could this somehow be causing...

A rechargeable battery failure might cause similar symptoms. If you haven't already tried this try removing the battery and starting up (while connected to AC of course).

Laptop Display flashs then screen locks up

I wouldn't suspect its anything other than your lcd or inverter. Connecting it to an external monitor cements it. If it was the video card or motherboard it would have certainly done it again. For it to appear locked up would just mean the picture you are watching was the last in its memory to post. Meaning, if the inverter or lcd start having problems, the last thing it was told to display would appear to be frozen to whoever is watching but in actuality its the display not machine that is frozen. Try ejecting the cd tray. Better yet set your power button shut down when pushed. Then have it have another lock up watching a video then push the power button or eject to see if it responds. Then you will know forsure. Hope that helps.

The 3 LED's (Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) are used by Dell to diagnose no-post issues such as yours. The only error code close to yours is [Num Lock ON, Caps Lock FLASHING, Scroll Lock ON]. This indicates a a memory error. Try reseating the memory modules. If you have 2 memory modules, insert one at a time to determine the faulty module.

The flashing caps lock is an indication of a failed POWER on Self-Test (POST)

Remove the HDD, Battery, AC adapter, RAM and Modem

Press and hold power button for 15 seconds

Connect AC, see if you get any beep codes. If you do, power off, disconnect power, insert RAM, connect AC and reboot. If system boots, power off and add hard drive. If it doesn't, replace the motherboard.

If the system boots with RAM, but fails to boot with HDD, replace HDD 1st.
