What Does It Mean When Support for My Operating System Ends?

Microsoft Support for Windows Vista (with no service packs installed) ended on April 13, 2010, while support for Windows XP (without Service Pack 3 installed) ended on July 13, 2010. Windows 2000 support ended on July 13, 2010 as well.
There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.
If you are still running a version of Windows where support has ended, it means that version of Windows will no longer receive any updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site. These updates are generally provided for security reasons to help protect the PC from harmful viruses, spyware, malware, and other malicious software. Windows Update also provides new drivers for your hardware that can improve the reliability of Windows.
Hackers love to take a security vulnerability in Windows and exploit it to their advantage. So, if a vulnerability is found in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you are not running the latest service pack, you will not be protected and will be at risk.

How Can I Tell What Service Pack is Installed?
Follow these steps to discover what Service Pack is installed:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Right-click on either My Computer or Computer (depending on your Windows version)
3) Click on Properties
On this window, it should tell you which version of Windows along with which service pack is installed). It should also tell you whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows.

My computer is very slow

Windows Vista has a bad reputation of being dumb and slow. Windows XP and Windows 7 are way better in this respect. If you are using Windows Vista make sure that your RAM is at least 1 GB and your processor should be around 1GHz. If this is not so upgrade will definitely help. Just follow the below instructions to enhance your PC's speed.
(1) Keep your PC free of viruses especially if you extensively use the internet. Always keep a good updated Antivirus on your computer all the time and make sure you do not install more than one Anti virus on a single computer it is not recommended.
(2) Keep your Windows registry clean. Use a good registry cleaning software like RegCure and keep it updated. This also makes a good difference.
(3) Clean your Hard disk of all unwanted stuff manually and you can use disk cleaning utility of Windows also. To locate Disk clean just right click on any Hard disk partition (C:, D: etc) and take the properties of it. You will see a pie chart just beside that you will find the disk cleaning button to remove unnecessary files in your PC and boost its speed.
(4)After disk cleaning "Defrag" your disk also if possible. Just right click on a disk partition and go to properties you will see a window and on top you will see a tab "Tools" click that and you will find "Disk Defragmentation".

Make sure it happens.and your PC will be running fast in no time.

Try this for starters:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/

Basically, it involves un-installing .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service pack
1.

Then download and use (Run as Administrator) the Windows Installer CleanUp
Utility, and remove all references to .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service
pack 1 (only!).

Then reinstall .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service pack 1:

Then run Windows Update again, to install KB929729.

I dont no how to turn on my wifi or use my wifi on my compaq presario 2100

Start by making sure your windows configuration is equipped with the latest updates. I installed a new hard drive in my computer and did a fresh install of XP. Once it was installed, I used the "Tools" tab on Internet Explorer to do a windows update. It took several cyles of doing this to get things worked through. For instance, Update won't offer the Service Pack 2 unless you've already updated to Service Pack 1. After 2 or 3 or more cyles of running Update and rebooting my computer, I suddenly discovered my wireless feature was up and running. Once it is actually in operation, you will need to configure it using the menus. I'll leave that discussion to another expert.

HP site said load XP SP3 upgrade Utility for system with AMD Processors. When I load this Utility and check for It is showing message Your system does not meet minimum requirements for this update. Update...

This means that microsoft has deemed your computer as not having the system requirements for the service pack.
Could be something as simple as you haven't installed service pack 1 ans 2 yet..
I would use windows update on your start menu, take all the recommended updates, generally once the updates required for service pack 3 are installed , then the next time you run windows update it will look for the next set of updates. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 update sessions to get the one you want if you havent updated your computer in some time..

HI Deb,
You will need to update windows to service pack3 first. Then once completed click "start" and open "control panel" and then "Add Remove programs-software" Scroll through list of installed software and identify all and only the office related components "select" each component individually then click "remove/uninstall" Remove all previous installed office components, starting with the smallest sized file to the largest, once completed restart your machine and try the office install disk again. See below for service pack three download info and links:

Download the service pack manually You can use Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center to obtain Windows XP SP3 online. Check for updates on Windows Update loadTOCNode(4, 'moreinformation'); To check for updates on Windows Update, follow these steps:

  3. If your computer is up to date, Windows XP SP3 will be one of the updates that is automatically selected. Click Install. If your computer is not up to date, Windows Update will offer some other updates that you have to install first. Install those, and then repeat steps 1 and 2 to obtain Windows XP SP3.
  4. For Windows XP SP3, review and accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.
Windows XP SP3 will be downloaded to your computer, and the Windows XP Service Pack 3 Setup Wizard will help you install it.
