You will ahve to run the troubleshooting for keyboard. Go to Start->Control Panel->Keyboard->Hardware->Troubleshoot. Just follow the program and keep answering the questions correctly. All problems are solved this way. If this does not work then Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->Keyboard. And select the keyboard and delete it. Then go to Actions->Scan for new HW. It will reload the drivers for keyboard. and your problem would be solved.

I can't get rid of the zero in front of the minus, add, multiply and devide sign. how do i get rid of it?

Are you entering any number before pressing the minus, add, multiply, or divide key? Those operations require two numbers; if you don't supply the first one then the calculator will supply the previous answer, which was zero.

For example, to add 2 and 3, press 2 + 3 = and you'll see 5. Now to add 4 to that, press + and the calculator will automatically supply the 5. Press 4 = and you'll see 9.

WE HAVE A SHARP ER-A610 CASH REGISTER WE WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE THE ITEM LABEL FOR EACH DEPARTMENT KEY BUT DON'T KNOW THE JOB # AND PROCEEDURE FOR DOING IT I DON'T HAVE ALL THE PAGES OF THE MANU

Sharp uses a 3-digit ASCII code for each character. The ER-A610 manual has a table of the codes, but if you've lost that part of the book, you can find ascii tables online, like this one:
http://www.ascii.cl/
Note that many of these show 2-digit codes; add a leading zero to those, so A is 065, B is 066, etc.
the 00 key on your ER-A610 has a special purpose here - it is used to enter each character's code, so to spell FOOD you'd enter:
070 00
079 00
079 00
068 00
where each of those double-zeroes is the double-zero key, not just two zeroes.
You need to know the number of each department you need to change. If you're not sure what order they're numbered in (It's completely customizable, so don't count on them being in order, unless you're sure.), print out your current department programming:
(In PGM1 or PGM2 mode)
1100 @/FOR CA/AT
will print out all the depts. CA/AT is the Cash key at the bottom-right corner of the keyboard. It stands for CAsh / Amount Tendered, which isn't exactly obvious, so some folks relabel it.
Note that on the tape you printed, the name is printed below the dept. number.
Now we're ready to start. In PGM2 mode, enter:
2114 . @/FOR (Is the decimal point after the 2114 visible here?)
[dept. number] @/FOR [character codes] SBTL
[dept. number] @/FOR [character codes] SBTL
[dept. number] @/FOR [character codes] SBTL
(etc. until done)
CA/AT
For [dept. number], enter the number on the keypad, not by touching the actual dept. key.
[character codes] is the sequence of 3-digit codes and 00 key presses, like the FOOD example above.
If the departments you're changing are sequential, life is a little easier. When you finish Department 6 (for example) by touching the SBTL key, it will automatically count up to 7. You can do a series of depts. by entering the first of them as above, then after using the SBTL key, go straight into the character codes for the next in line. Continue this way for as many are in series. You can jump ahead or back at any time by with [dept. no.] @/FOR and keep going from there.
SBTL in all the lines above, means the key that normally shows your subtotal including tax. It might be labeled #/SBTL. The MDSE SBTL key won't do the trick.
If you use PLU's in you register, their names are programed exactly the same, except that instead of starting with 2114, you use 2214. Simple, no?

Ti89 responds to resets but nothing else

If the calculator is several years old it may be showing its age.
There is a connection point between the keyboard and the display
that over time loses its efficiency. Try this: press a number key
and at the same time apply pressure with your thumb or index
finger to the region of the calculator just below the display.
If you press hard, the number may just show up in the display.
This is a test for the tightness (or electrical efficiency) of the
keyboard-to-display connections.
Another way to make this test is to twist the calculator while
you depress a number key.
Sometimes the effect is such that the keys on one side or the
other work, or don't work, and the keys in the middle don't work
or work okay. By twisting (don't break it!) the calculator body
while you press the keys will show the weakness of the
connector between the display and the keyboard.
This can be repaired by a good electronic technician if you
explain to him what I just told you.

Programming help

Hi Leanne,
It depends which line it is on.
The codes for the lines are:
132 line 1
232 line 2
332 line 3
432 line 4

Turn the key to program mode

Type the line number (eg if VAT is on 3rd line down, type 332)

Press SUBTOTAL

Type the new details for that line using the programming layout in your book under the 'entering characters' section. You need to use the numbers at the left side, not the normal number pad. Eg 5/0 is above the clear key. To switch between the top and bottom numbers on the key, use CAPS or SHIFT. If you make a mistake while entering, the decimal point button will delete the last character.

Press 00 (the double zero button)

Press CASH

Press SUBTOTAL

Turn the key back to reg mode, and try printing a receipt. Note - you might have to print two receipts before you see the change.

Hope this helps. If you have any problems, just let me know.
